Lorde’s new album, Virgin, finally came out this week. Her fans are finally getting to listen to it, but some of her other admirers got to hear it in advance. While recording the album, she said a rapper stopped by the studio and listened to much of it. Here’s how he reacted to her new music.

Lorde said a rapper complimented her new album

Lorde worked on Virgin, her first album in four years, at Electric Lady Studios in New York City. Rapper Jack Harlowe was also working on music at the studio, and he stopped in to see her. She said he listened to much of the album before its release.

“Jack Harlow was working at Electric Lady when we were there towards the end of the record and somehow ended up getting most of the album played to him,” she told Zane Lowe, per People. “It was a very funny, cool link.”

She said Harlowe gave the new album his stamp of approval.

“He’s such a sweetheart,” she said. “He was like, ‘Your bars – these are bars.’ I was like, ‘Your words, not mine.'”

She shared the sound she was aiming for that impressed Harlowe.

“But it just is this sort of rolling cadence and physicality and within that, I’m trying to make myself laugh, I’m trying to make my eyebrow raise, I’m trying to kind of… I don’t know, just keep it feeling super alive.”

Lorde released her newest album on June 27.
