A decade after a Twitter feud that rocked the One Direction fandom, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik have been spotted out together. Shortly after Malik left One Direction, he and Tomlinson got into a social media spat. Here’s what went down between the former band members, and what fans are saying about their recent reunion.

In 2015, Malik devastated One Direction fans when he announced that he was leaving the band. Not long afterwards, producer Naughty Boy posted a picture with Malik captioned, “Replace this” in a dig at One Direction. 

The pair took the filtered photo on a MacBook, and Tomlinson responded, writing, “Remember when you were 12 and you used to think those Mac filters for your pictures were cool haha! Some people still do HA!” 

Malik fired back at Tomlinson. 

“Remember when you had a life and stopped making b****y comments about mine?” he asked his former bandmate. 

Within a few years, though, Tomlinson said they had put their feud behind them.

“Me and Zayn have spoken recently,” he told Sirius XM in 2017, per Teen Vogue. “We’ve got to a point now where, you know, we can just really be happy for each other. Things have happened in the past, of course. Yeah, it’s great. His first song is an absolute smash.”

This year, Tomlinson and Malik seem to have taken more steps to get their friendship back on track. Tomlinson attended one of Malik’s shows, and Malik shouted him out.

In September, a fan spotted the two of them out at a New York City bar. Later this month, a photo surfaced of the former bandmates riding a pedicab together in New Orleans. At this point, it was not clear to fans if they were filming something, or just hanging out.

Fans are celebrating the reunion

Unsurprisingly, One Direction fans are over the moon at the recent photos of Malik and Tomlinson. Many people mourned their falling out in 2015.

“Nature is healing,” wrote one Reddit user. 

“The way this heals my inner soul,” added another person.

People celebrated how far their relationship has come since their Twitter feud.

“This is actually crazy cuz they basically despised each other when Zayn left,” commented one person. 

“You know what, I love that they remained friends, even if it was allegedly rocky for a bit….good job boys!” added another person.

Some wondered if they grew closer after attending the funeral of former One Direction member Liam Payne.

“That’s nice,” wrote one person. “I’m pretty sure they were the only members who ever had a public ‘feud’ over Twitter. Liam’s passing probably showed them that life is fragile.”
