Margot Robbie is currently promoting Wuthering Heights with looks inspired by the film. Her makeup on the press tour is more toned down than some of the looks in the film. Still, she is wearing romantic and dramatic looks on the red carpet. A beauty expert said that Robbie’s makeup reflects 2026 trends and is easy to achieve at home.

In 2026, beauty experts expect to see dark romantic makeup looks explode in popularity. Robbie’s on the Wuthering Heights press tour fit right in with the growing trend.

“From undone, textured hair to smudged, smoky eyes, this trend leans into darker, moodier styles that add real depth and character,”  Annabella Taurua, Beauty Expert at Fresha, tells Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “Gothic-romance might look dramatic at first glance, but it’s surprisingly wearable, rooted in ease, it’s all about loose hair, imperfect finishes and make-up that feels lived-in rather than styled to perfection. From what we’ve seen so far on Margot Robbie’s press tour, the looks are cinematic, romantic, and full of texture and personality, which stylistically capture this aesthetic.”

Taurua noted that the look is a major departure from the “clean girl” trends that have been popular in recent years.

“As people move away from the overly polished minimalism that’s been popular in the past few years, this trend offers something versatile and more expressive,” she said. “The result is a style that feels timeless but still modern, and I expect we’ll see even more experimentation with soft waves, smokier eyes, and layered textures, both on the red carpet and in everyday styling. The Gothic romance trend is clearly already transforming everyday looks into something cinematic and expressive, full of personality and a little bit of drama.”

The ‘Wuthering Heights’ makeup designer spoke about Margot Robbie’s look

In the film, hair and makeup designer Siân Miller said she used makeup to capture director Emerald Fennell’s vision.

“What [Emerald] was really clear about from the beginning is that this was to be seen through the imagination of a 14-year-old girl — this was Emerald’s imagination,” Miller told Allure. “It was clear that it would be a kind of fever dream.”

She said she focused on creating a flushed look for all of the characters.

“We wanted this weather-beaten look for the characters at Wuthering Heights,” Miller explained. “Jacob [Elordi] had it, the younger versions [of Cathy and Heathcliff] had it. With Cathy, I was inspired by the ‘pomegranate girl’ TikTok trend of 2024; that clean, flushed look.”

The actor has also wanted to tell a story with her jewelry

Robbie’s makeup looks on the press tour fit the film well. She said she also wanted to tell a story with her jewelry. Robbie recently wore the Cartier Taj Mahal necklace from the Elizabeth Taylor Archive and Estate on the red carpet. She wanted to be “intentional” with her styling choices.

“This necklace and the diamond itself has a pretty incredible history and feels like a very romantic history, so it felt appropriate to match with our Schiaparelli gown,” she told People.

She also wore a replica of one of Charlotte Brontë’s mourning bracelets.
