Mariah Carey Won’t Be Following Katy Perry Into Space: ‘I’ve Done Enough’
Mariah Carey appears to be the very definition of unbothered these days. The iconic songstress is so unbothered that she doesn’t even keep up with the news about her peers. In a recent interview, Mariah Carey learned, for apparently the first time, that Katy Perry had gone to space. While impressed, the “Touch My Body” singer had absolutely no interest in following her lead. When asked if she was interested in taking her own flight, Carey had a hilarious answer.
Mariah Carey doesn’t think she needs to go to space
If Blue Origin was hoping to get Mariah Carey onboard for their next expedition into space, they are going to have a hard time selling her on it. The mother of two apparently doesn’t keep up with the goings-on in the space tourism industry. During a recent interview with BBC Radio 2, Mariah Carey was surprised to learn Katy Perry had taken a trip into space, despite the flight taking place back in April. She even asked the interviewer if she was “floating around” and everything.
Carey appeared mildly impressed with the feat, and certainly seemed perfectly happy that Katy Perry enjoyed her trip. Still, she has no desire to follow her. When asked if she, too, would be interested in heading into orbit, Carey didn’t skip a beat, nor did she remove her shades. She chuckled before revealing that she thinks she’s “done enough.”
Katy Perry was criticized for the trip
Mariah Carey’s disinterest in heading into orbit is probably a good thing. While Katy Perry was happy with her Blue Origin adventure, the rest of the world was not. Perry was roasted by peers, fans, and brands upon her return.
Perry wasn’t alone on the 10-minute voyage into space. Gayle King, Lauren Sanchez, and others all went, too. Still, she’s the passenger who was roasted the hardest. That likely had something to do with her in-flight behavior. She sang, carried a daisy as a tribute to her daughter, and kissed the ground upon her return. The theatrics seem to have set people off, including other celebrities. Emily Ratajkowski, Olivia Munn, Olivia Wilde, and Amy Schumer all made comments. Wendy’s, the burger chain, questioned if we could send her back.
Katy Perry remained quiet for several days after the flight before addressing her fans. According to The Standard, the “Dark Horse” singer likened herself to a “human piñata.” She did not address the concerns other celebrities raised about her trip to space. She didn’t even address concerns about her displaying her wealth. Instead, she called the internet a “dumping ground” for the “unhinged and unhealed.” The comment, understandably, was not well-received.
