His current plight was recently discussed on a podcast, where former NBA stars suggested that Klay Thompson’s romance with Megan Thee Stallion might be to blame. He has clapped back.
NBA fans are blaming Megan Thee Stallion for Klay Thompson’s on-court struggles
Klay Thompson’s lackluster NBA season has been a topic of discussion for days now. It was also discussed by Jason Williams and Patrick Beverly on an installment of Hoopin’ N Hollerin’. The two former NBA players theorized that Thompson is “juggling” too much with his career and his personal life. Beverly kept his comments pretty tame and respectful, but Williams offered some pretty lewd commentary, claiming, “It only takes one p—y to drag a battleship across the desert.” He went on to address Thompson directly, stating, “Klay Thompson, I ain’t sayin’ that’s what it is, but that might be what it is.”
While Williams and fans all seem to think they’ve figured out what has gone wrong for Thompson, he rejects the notion. According to The New York Post, Thompson clapped back at the podcasters in the comments section. In an Instagram post about him, Thompson told the podcasters to “do better” before seeing his way out.

Megan Thee Stallion might be the latest woman to be blamed for her man’s poor sports performance, but she’s not the first and probably won’t be the last. There is a bit of a tradition in professional sports to blame the lady in an athlete’s life for poor on-the-field performances. It’s not just basketball, either. This trend is also common in the NFL.
Jessica Simpson is one of the earlier modern examples. During her romance with Tony Romo, she was widely regarded as a jinx. Her decision to wear a pink Cowboys jersey, fans theorized, negatively impacted Romo’s playoff performance in 2007. His 2008 season, in which he was dating Simpson, is considered one of his worst, if not his worst. There is no evidence to indicate Simpson actually had any impact on his gameplay; still, fans called her “Yoko Romo.”
Joining Jessica Simpson is Gisele Bundchen. Bundchen was largely blamed for Tom Brady’s very lackluster 2021 NFL season. Fans claimed that marital strife led to an unfocused and undisciplined Brady. He ultimately retired from the sport, but his marital troubles likely had nothing to do with his poor gameplay. His age likely played a significant role in it, though.
Ciara, Olivia Munn, and Taylor Swift have also been deemed distractions. Ciara is famously married to Russell Wilson, while Munn dated Aaron Rodgers for a time. Swift’s relationship with Travis Kelce is blamed for his subpar receptions in the last few years. Khloe Kardashian has been deemed the “problem” for several NBA stars she’s dated, from Lamar Odom to James Harden.
