What the heck happened between Meghan Markle and Vogue? That’s a question people have been asking following the news that came out recently claiming the Duchess of Sussex’s behavior got her “blacklisted” from the prestigious magazine.

Back in 2022, the former Suits star was set to appear in a cover story for the publication regarding her philanthropic endeavors. However, the magazine scrapped those plans when word got to Anna Wintour about Meghan’s actions.

Here’s more on that, plus why the Palace wasn’t thrilled the first time the duchess was involved with the publication while she was still a working royal.

The Palace wasn’t impressed with Meghan’s behind-the-scenes Vogue antics

Before the 2022 debacle that reportedly got Meghan blacklisted, Prince Harry’s wife was involved in British Vogue’s 2019 “Faces of Change” edition. There are conflicting reports about whether she was asked to guest-edit the issue or was asked to be on the cover and chose to guest-edit instead. Either way, it was something the Palace was thought to be totally supportve of. However, Meghan’s behind-the-scenes antics in which she posed with former British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful didn’t sit well with the royals.

Royal expert Rebecca English shared with the Daily Mail’s Palace Confidental what she heard about that.

“I know a bit of a story regarding Meghan and Vogue … The piece she did with Vogue, when she did her first kind of big piece with them about voices and “Faces of Change,” which was a really powerful piece of work,” English said. “[It was] the fastest selling issue of British Vogue in its history but I know … she did a bit of behind-the-scenes video with Edward Enninful to publicize that, and at one point they were wearing kind of party hats and things like that, and I know that didn’t go down well in Palace circles.”

English added: “They were very supportive of her doing the project, they thought it was very powerful. It then slipped into quite silly celebrity territory, and I don’t think they were that happy. Someone described it to me as giving them the ick.”

As for what went down in 2022, sources told the Daily Mail that Meghan was supposed to do a Vogue cover for the September 2022 issue that would have highlighted her appearance as a keynote speaker at the One Young World Summit in Manchester, England. However, sources say the duchess began making outrageous demands and expected to be accommodated “like she was Beyoncé.”

According to an insider, “Meghan asked for control over [the] photographer, writer, final edit, photos, cover lines, and wanted a global issue,” which the editors wouldn’t agree to because “nobody gets that. Not even Beyoncé.”

The insider added: “Anna heard about it and just like banned her and said, ‘That’s it. We don’t want to do this.’ And so she didn’t get the cover, and I guess she didn’t even get the story. [Edward Enninful] probably agreed with Anna that you don’t get to call the shots on who’s on the cover. That’s absolutely an editor’s decision.”

Meghan reportedly asked for a Zoom call with Wintour to request being on the U.K. and U.S. covers but “Anna wasn’t interested” and “blacklisted” the duchess from appearing in the magazine at all.
