Meghan Markle Blows Podcast Episode With Beyoncé’s Mom Tina Knowles to Talk About Herself
There have been numerous reports that Meghan Markle had been trying to secure some big names for her podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder. Some of the duchess’s guests included Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd, Highbrow Hippie co-founder Kadi Lee, and Spanx founder Sara Blakely. While they are all very successful entrepreneurs, none have the celebrity and star power that Meghan was seeking. That is, until she dropped one final surprise podcast episode and was joined by Beyoncé Knowles’ mother, Tina Knowles.
According to multiple reports, Beyoncé had no interest in appearing on the former Suits actor‘s podcast, but Meghan was able to get Bey’s mother to. Tina has a book to promote and she’s in the midst of doing media rounds and press tours for her memoir, Matriarch, anyway so she agreed to be on the duchess’s podcast.
However, Tina likely expected to be talking more about her book instead of hearing Meghan talk about herself.
Commentator questions if Meghan used Beyoncé’s mom for a ‘calculated rebrand’
Confessions of a Female Founder was Meghan’s second podcast after her first, Archetypes, was canceled by Spotify in 2023. Lemonada Media then teamed up with Prince Harry’s wife and her new podcast debuted on April 8, 2025. The series consisted of eight episodes but Meghan released a bonus episode on June 3, which Tina was a part of.
The decision to have Queen B’s mother on at all left some scratching their heads, while others called it a “calculated rebrand” and proof that Meghan could finally book a big-name guest after failing to do so throughout the season.
During an appearance on Sky News Australia with host Rita Panahi, royal expert and commentator Kinsey Schofield said: “Some of us are trying to understand why she is returning to her entertainment roots here or even the Archetypes-failed format. The shift away from the show’s original focus on founders and entrepreneurs is raising eyebrows. And some of us are interpreting it as a calculated rebrand.
“But there are others who are arguing that she’s trying to go out with a bang. I think it’s odd … Tina Knowles? … Is Meghan going to try to become a momager to Lili? That’s my question. Is that the next route we’re going?”
Meghan decided to talk about herself during podcast with Tina Knowles
Express took a stance insisting that no matter what was behind Meghan’s decision to have Tina on, it was a wasted opportunity.
The publication noted that Tina mentioned her daughter’s childhood and explained that Beyoncé could have been a hairdresser if she wanted, saying: “She’s on a stage with hot lights and she wears wigs a lot, and she’s managed to keep her hair beautiful and healthy and that’s not an easy task when you’re in showbiz.”
Instead of allowing Tina to share more about how Bey maintains her healthy hair, Meghan interrupted to talk about herself.
The duchess interjected with: “I was on Suits for seven years and I remember so many other actresses, especially if you’re in that grind, they said ‘You are going to fry your hair.’ And everyone was recommending that I should start wearing wigs. I never ended up doing it. By the way, if I was in that industry longer, I understand why you need to protect your hair in that way.”
Commenters agreed that Meghan’s interview skills need work and called out the missed opportunity with the superstar’s mother.
