Meghan Markle Hits Out About 1 Rule for Royal Women That She’s Happy She Doesn’t Have to Follow Anymore
Meghan Markle‘s time as a working royal was brief. The Duchess of Sussex clocked a total of 72 official engagements before she and Prince Harry stepped down 18 months after they tied the knot.
But even though she lives a totally different life in America now, she’s still married to a prince and therefore will always be connected to Britain’s royal family. And speaking about her in-laws is something Meghan has never had any problem with doing because she knows it will garner headlines when she needs it.
So now an interview the duchess did in which she mentions the royals has been released the same day as season 2 of her Netflix show With Love, Meghan.
What Meghan is free from having to wear now
During an appearance on The Circle with Emily Chang, Meghan discussed her style and fashion choices today.
While doing so, the Suits alum took a dig at a protocol other royal ladies adhere to, saying, “It was different several years ago when I couldn’t be as vocal and I had to wear nude pantyhose (tights) all the time. Let’s be honest, that was not very myself. I hadn’t seen pantyhose since movies in the 80s when they came in the little egg. That felt a little bit inauthentic.
“That’s a silly example. But it is an example of when you’re able to dress the way you want to dress and you are able to say the things you want to say that are true and be able to show up in a space that is really organically and authentically, that’s being comfortable in your own skin.”
Meghan added: “Of course, I have had different chapters in my life. But right now I don’t feel I need to prove anything.”
Meghan previously talked about not being able to wear much color as a working royal
That wasn’t the first time Meghan took a shot at the royals over what she was expected and not expected to wear.
During an episode of the couple’s Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, the duchess claimed that she couldn’t wear as much color as she wanted because of another royal rule.
“To my understanding, you can’t ever wear the same color as Her Majesty if there’s a group event,” she explained. “But then you also should never be wearing the same color as one of the other more senior members of the family.”
Meghan went on to say that she did not wear bright colors because she wanted to “blend in” with the family not “stand out” or “embarrass” them.
At the same time, on the other side of the pond, several royals appeared to make it a point of wearing the same color when they gathered for the Princess of Wales’ Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, which was held the same day volume II of Harry & Meghan was released.
That evening Kate, Zara Tindall, and Princess Charlotte all wore burgundy while Queen Camilla and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh wore off white.
