Meghan Markle ‘Left Disgusted’ Over Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s Hopes to Reconnect With Nephew Prince Harry
Some members of the royal family have spoken about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s association with Jeffrey Epstein after another batch of files were released by the Department of Justice in January. Those documents contained a photo of the former prince crouching over an unidentified woman as well as numerous conversations between Epstein and Andrew.
Following that release, King Charles and Queen Camilla stressed that their thoughts remain with the victims of Epstein’s crimes. Andrew’s other brother, Prince Edward, echoed that saying, “I think it’s all really important always to remember the victims and who are the victims in all this.”
A spokesperson for Prince William and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) also shared, “I can confirm the Prince and Princess have been deeply concerned by the continuing revelations. Their thoughts remain focused on the victims.”
Then, after Andrew was arrested on Feb. 19, Buckingham Palace released a statement from the king that read: “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair, and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.
“In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and cooperation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.”
Two family members who have remained quiet when it comes to Andrew are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The pair stepped down as working royals years ago and have not said anything at all about the former Duke of York’s association with the late convicted sex offender or Andrew’s arrest. But now there is a report that Andrew has been hoping to find some common ground with Harry and reconnect with his nephew.
As reported by The News International, with his titles stripped and having to leave his Royal Lodge home, Andrew feels like he was being pushed out of the family and sees the Duke of Sussex as a potential ally.
“Andrew is feeling a lot of kinship towards Harry. In his view, they are both ‘spares’ that have been terribly mistreated,” a palace insider said. “Andrew still can’t believe his own brother and family have turned on him this way, and now he sees they’ve done it to Harry, too. In his view, that ought to bond them — even though they’ve never been close in the past.”
However, Harry’s wife is not on board with her husband reconnecting with his disgraced uncle. So even if he was open to hearing Andrew out, the duchess made it clear she does not want Andrew anywhere near them or their brand, explaining, “The issue that [Andrew’s] going to face is that Meghan is disgusted by him. She thinks he’ll tarnish her brand and will want nothing to do with him — and what she says goes when it comes to Harry.”
