Meghan Markle has decided to branch out into yet another business venture and now has plans to move into the hospitality space, opening her own hotel and restaurants.

It seems there isn’t much the Duchess of Sussex isn’t willing to try. After acting on a TV show for years, she became a working royal, then a producer, a reality TV star, a podcast host, and a saleswoman pushing jams and spreads for her lifestyle brand As Ever. Well now Meghan has reportedly decided: Why not get into the hospitality business too?

Here’s more on that and what an expert thinks about her plan, plus what fans are saying about staying at a hotel run by the former Suits star.

Expert explains what issues Meghan may have with her latest venture

The Sun reported that Prince Harry’s wife is trademarking As Ever for “hospitality services.” While all the details haven’t been disclosed, there’s a “provision of food and drink” and temporary lodging for guests included.

In her Netflix show With Love, Meghan, the duchess presented herself as the hostess with the mostess and talked about how one of her favorite things to do is “prep the guest room” for people to stay in and feel at home.

PR and branding expert Jack Izzard, of Gallia Communications, spoke to The Sun about Meghan’s trademark application and explained: “In terms of positioning, it’s not a million miles from where As Ever is. She is very much positioning herself as a star hostess, Californian royalty who makes her guests feel welcome.”

However, he cautioned: “The issue she’s potentially going to have is that it’s a completely different skill set, running a hospitality business. A night in an As Ever B&B will be several hundred pounds. That’s really going to blow up if it’s bad.”

Izzard also pointed out that Meghan has been going full steam ahead with her ventures while Harry has remained relatively quiet and hasn’t been doing much of anything lately.

“She always intimated she was stifled by life in the royal family. She’s got to earn a living,” Izzard said. “It’s very much ‘I’m this Californian hostess now.’ Harry’s still stuck in the past and trying to settle scores [but Meghan] is looking ahead, forging this brand.”

Of course plenty of people had an opinion about whether they would stay at hotel or eat at a restaurant owned by the duchess.

One user on X.com gave the idea a firm “no” writing, “She knows nothing about either” and another added, “Not a chance.”

A third person posted: “Only limited number of as ever items sold on her site. Plus over 2 months without restocking. Sounds like she doesn’t have a sound business plan. Or any business plan. Would never stay or dine at a place she owns.”

And a fourth commenter joked, “Ha Ha Ha! What’s next? Maybe opening a Twerking School?” in reference to a video Meghan shared of her twerking before her daughter Princess Lilibet’s birth.
