Meghan Markle Receives Huge Blow as New Netflix Stores Refuse to Sell Her As Ever Products
Netflix has two new mega stores in Dallas-area and Philadelphia-area malls. The Netflix House brick-and-mortar stores sell merchandise, themed food and drinks (inspired by popular Netflix shows and titles), as well as tickets for experiences like immersive shows, mini golf, and VR games.
Guests can enter the shop for free to explore all it has to offer. But something you won’t find in there to purchase is anything from Meghan Markle’s lifestyle show With Love, Meghan.
This comes as a surprise to some because the former Suits star had previously talked about her partnership with Netflix and its investment in her As Ever products. However, the only person who’s been pushing those products is Meghan herself, and it looks like that’s how it’s going to stay.
The Netflix Houses were reportedly supposed to carry Meghan’s products
Despite investing in Prince Harry’s wife‘s As Ever brand, Netflix is not selling her products at any of its new mega stores, The Royalist has learned.
There was a time when it was thought that the Netflix House stores would carry items from Meghan’s As Ever collection. In February, a company source told the Daily Mail that “Netflix is expanding and growing all the time and Netflix House is a natural progression. Meghan’s products will be in there alongside shirts and merchandise from some of the biggest shows on the planet.” There will also be an onsite cafe “so Meghan’s products like her strawberry jam will be featured on the menu too.”
Instead, the products you’ll find on the shelves at the Netflix Houses include Stranger Things, Squid Games, and Bridgerton-themed products as well as other food and drink offerings related to your favorite shows.
Some close to Meghan have played the whole thing off, saying that it’s not a big deal because her As Ever items were only ever meant to be sold on her brand’s website. But there’s no doubting that if the stores did carry her products, it would do wonders for her sales. So Meghan can’t be happy about this.
Reason for the decision not to carry the duchess’s As Ever products
So why the shift and decision not to carry products featured in With Love, Meghan?
Insiders believe it’s because the duchess’s show was not a hit with audiences, as it pulled in dismal numbers. Even with all the buzz surrounding Season 1 of With Love, Meghan, the series failed to break into the streamer’s top 300 most-watched shows. It landed at No. 383 on the company’s report.
For the second season, Meghan and Netflix spent months promoting it, hoping season 2 would pull in better numbers than the first season. What no one expected, though, was that the very day it premiered on Aug. 26, it didn’t garner many headlines at all because that same day Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement.
That announcement dominated the news cycles for days. But even after all the initial engagement buzz died down, With Love, Meghan Season 2, still failed to generate the huge numbers they hoped for.
