Meghan Markle celebrated her 45th birthday and shared a series of relaxed behind-the-scenes moments from her big day, offering fans a glimpse into her home life with Prince Harry.

Now, an expert has analyzed clips the former Suits star posted to her Instagram Stories and says the videos are a deliberate attempt to present her and her husband as relatable and authentic. The candid clips show everything from Meghan dancing in the kitchen to playing with their dogs and walking barefoot, painting a very different picture from the formal image traditionally associated with members of the royal family.

Darren Stanton is a body language and behavioral expert with a degree in psychology. He previously worked as a police officer and used his expertise to uncover the truth when interviewing hundreds of suspects. He later moved into media and has been dubbed the “Human Lie Detector.” Stanton frequently offers his expert analysis on high-profile public figures such as the royals.

Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, Stanton told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “I think what [Meghan and Harry] are doing is really humanizing the way they’re perceived. They’re showing themselves messing around in the kitchen, playing with the dogs, Meghan falling about laughing, dancing, and even walking around barefoot.

“They’re sharing moments that you would never, ever have seen from other members of the royal family, especially in the past. You do wonder what Queen Elizabeth would have made of it all — that would have been quite interesting.”

The expert added, “I think the reason they’re posting these kinds of stories is to reconnect with people. This is their way of showing they are just like us. They’re a couple in love who can be playful, have fun, and not take themselves too seriously. Ultimately, these posts are giving people an insight into what they’re like together behind the scenes. They’re showing that royals don’t have to be serious all the time and that they have a fun, light-hearted side to their personalities.”

However, someone who used to be close with Meghan doesn’t believe there’s any way to change people’s “perceptions” of the Duchess of Sussex.

Speaking on behalf of Cafe Casino, Ede told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “I think she’ll always be seen as a duchess, and no matter how she tries to distance herself from it, it’s part of her brand now. I think she wants to be more relatable … but I think it’s better to lean into it rather than distance. I think unfortunately there is no way to change people’s perception of her. It’s best for her to get on with living her life fully and ignore the negativity.”
