Meghan Markle’s Beef With Taylor Swift May Have Just Gotten Much Worse Over Some Major News
Meghan Markle has had some big news to share over the last few weeks.
On Aug. 12, Netflix released the trailer for the second season of her lifestyle show With Love, Meghan, and revealed that the premiere date would be Aug. 26.
The former Suits star then took to her Instagram to share the trailer and premiere date with her followers, writing: “The best moments are made to be shared [gold-sparkle emoji] With Love, Meghan returns August 26th on Netflix.”
But the duchess’s effort was no match for the most famous pop star in the world, and so the day when Meghan thought she could take over the news cycle that didn’t happen because of Taylor Swift.
Swift’s appearance on the Kelce brothers’ podcast dominated headlines
The “Shake It Off” singer had her own big news to share on Aug. 12, and appeared on Travis and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast to reveal that she has a new album coming out.
Rob Shuter reported on his Substack that sources told him Meghan was so upset with the “Anti-Hero” artist because at the same time she and Netflix were putting the word out about her show, all anyone was talking about was Swift and her upcoming album.
Therefore, Meghan didn’t garner the attention and headlines she wanted.
“Meghan thought her trailer would own the news cycle,” one source claimed. “Then Taylor’s announcement came in like a wrecking ball. Meghan’s convinced it wasn’t just bad luck. She saw this as her comeback moment, then Taylor took all the oxygen out of the room.”
Swift joined the brothers again the next day on their show and actually broke a Guinness World Record for “the most concurrent views for a podcast on YouTube” with a total of 1.3 million.
Swift’s engagement to Travis Kelce was even bigger news
Then came Aug. 26, the day Season 2 of With Love, Meghan began streaming on Netflix. Whether critics enjoyed or panned the new season, all press is good press for Meghan. But she didn’t count on barely any press after Swift and Kelce almost broke the internet with their engagement announcement.
The pair dropped a carousel of photos showing the moment Kelce proposed to the “Love Story” songbird in a beautiful garden. The two captioned the snaps: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
News of the Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end asking the superstar to marry him made headlines in every part of the globe and was picked up by virtually every media outlet, not just sports and entertainment websites.
Local news stations in cities all across America and beyond shared the couple’s engagement by incorporating it into broadcasts.
The Instagram post reached tens of millions of likes in under an hour and was all anyone could talk about, which likely didn’t sit well with the Duchess of Sussex.
Of course, there’s no reason to think Swift planned or did any of this on purpose as she probably didn’t even realize Season 2 of With Love, Meghan dropped the same day. Many fans though have chalked it up to a dose of karma for Meghan since over the years she and her husband have intentionally tried to steal headlines and outshine the royal family on the same days they had important news or announcements to share.
