Meryl Streep and Francia Raisa Are No-Shows at Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s Wedding
Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s wedding day has officially come and gone. The newlyweds took to Instagram shortly after their 3 pm ceremony to share some wedding-day photos before heading off to their reception. While Benny and Selena were surrounded by friends, family, and several famous faces, there were more than a few notable absences. Ahead of the big day, we reported that Travis Kelce probably wouldn’t make it to the event due to his NFL obligations and the Chiefs’ rules. He was not there. He wasn’t the only one missing from the reception, though. Meryl Streep and Francia Raisa appear to have been no-shows, too. What does that mean for their connection to the happy couple?
Meryl Streep was filming while Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez’s wedding got underway
Selena Gomez and Meryl Streep grew close on the set of Only Murders in the Building. After her casting in season 3, Gomez has spoken affectionately about Streep. In an interview with Elle, she revealed that she was in awe of Streep the second she set foot on set. She called her a mentor and has praised her on social media. Streep has been similarly kind. Their seemingly close bond and the appearance of several Only Murders in the Building costars at the event led fans to assume Streep would be in attendance. She was not.
While Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco were celebrating at their wedding rehearsal, Streep was spotted in Milan. According to The Daily Mail, Streep was seen dressed as Miranda Priestly at a fashion show, despite being expected to be in California. It appears that the film crew aimed to capture a live event with the cast of The Devil Wears Prada 2. The event coincidentally occurred on Gomez’s wedding day. It appears a filming change forced her to miss the event, so it was nothing personal, but sad nevertheless.
Francia Raisa didn’t attend either, it seems
While Streep’s absence appears to be due to an unexpected work conflict, fans are concerned that there may be a more personal and dramatic reason behind Francia Raisa not being spotted in Montecito. At the very least, it seems like she was a no-show at the wedding venue. Raisa took to Instagram on the night of the wedding to share several stories that showed her at another event. Later, she added videos of her dancing in the street with Sasha Farber. Some critics think Raisa purposefully posted on the evening of Gomez’s wedding to clue followers in that she was elsewhere. If that was the motivation, it could suggest she was not invited. We could understand her being angry if she didn’t score an invite.
Raisa and Gomez have had a complicated friendship for the last several years. Gomez and Raisa were good friends for many years. Still, they appear to have had a falling out around the time Gomez’s documentary My Mind and Me was released. Rasia had previously donated her kidney to Gomez. Gomez, who has lupus, was desperately in need of a transplant when Rasia agreed to get tested. Following the transplant, the pair remained close before drifting slowly apart. After Gomez made comments that downplayed the importance of Raisa in her life, the situation became publicly heated.
They appeared to reconcile briefly. They even posted about each other for a bit, and then that tapered off, too. Raisa being elsewhere on the day of the wedding suggests the feud is back on. They haven’t been spotted together recently, that’s for sure. Still, we don’t know if Raisa skipped the event, had something else going on, or was simply not invited.
