Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert were once a power couple in entertainment and sports. After dating for years, the singer and actress married the former NBA player in 2016, and they welcomed two daughters together.

In 2023, Taylor publicly confirmed that she and Shumpert had separated. In her divorce filing, she cited “irreconcilable differences.” The court documents alleged Shumpert was emotionally abusive, jealous of her fame, and unsupportive of her career.

Shumpert denied those claims, and their divorce was finalized in July 2024. According to Page Six, Taylor was ordered to pay $70,000 in a contempt case after details of the settlement were leaked.

Following such a contentious divorce, Shumpert shared where he stands now on love and walking down the aisle again.

During an appearance on Shannon Sharpe Club Shay Shay podcast, the former basketball star said, “I don’t know if I’ll do it (marriage), um, legally. Like, I don’t want to sign papers and all that. Like, we are going to do a contract. We are going to do a contract owning something that we are both trying to do anyway … I ain’t doing all that.

“The biggest thing I learned is like when you get married, you think it’s like a new level of love and it ain’t [like that] … She loves you already, if y’all at this point, y’all already in love. That’s probably where I’m at now. I’m thinking, like when you get the ring, you do this, it’s like you’re going to get a whole new bounce in your step. It’s like, hell no. Ain’t nothing going to change. It’s a piece of paper.”

Today, Taylor and Shumpert maintain a good co-parenting relationship for their children.
