Shortly after Shia LaBeouf’s arrest during Mardi Gras festivities, news broke that he and Mia Goth had separated. The couple has been together on and off for over a decade, but Goth reportedly pushed to separate last year. As she moves forward, sources say she hopes to focus on her daughter and career.

Mia Goth ‘encouraged’ Shia LaBeouf to move out of their home

A year before LaBeouf made headlines for his arrest, Goth reportedly “encouraged” him to move out of their Los Angeles home.

“Their relationship has always been complicated,” a source told People. “They weren’t getting along and had a lot of drama last year.”

The couple shares a daughter. At this point, the source said Goth’s focus is on raising her child and continuing to cultivate her acting career.

“She loves him, but she also doesn’t need him,” they said, adding, “She’s very independent. She has her own life, her own career, and her priority is their daughter.”

At this point, they reportedly have a polite co-parenting relationship.

“Shia loves their daughter and stays in touch,” the source said.

How long were Mia Goth and Shia LaBeouf together?

Goth and LaBeouf met on the set of Nymphomaniac: Vol II in 2012. After four years of dating, they married in 2016.

“It’s better on the other side,” LaBeouf told E! News. “I’ve been lied to my whole life. You always hear these people who are all cynical, like, ‘Ah, man, once you get married everything changes. But for the better though!”

Their relationship was turbulent even before marriage. In 2015, the couple had a public argument in Germany. At one point, LaBeouf said he was approaching violence.

“I don’t wanna touch you. I don’t wanna be aggressive,” he said, per a clip obtained by Entertainment Tonight. “This is the kind of s*** that makes a person abusive.”

He later told a group of nearby men, “If I’d have stayed there, I would have killed her.”

They announced their divorce in 2018, but were spotted wearing wedding rings in 2020. In 2022, they welcomed their daughter.

He was recently arrested in New Orleans

In the early hours of Tuesday, Feb. 17, LaBeouf was arrested in New Orleans following an altercation at a bar. After staff ejected him from R Bar in the city’s Faubourg Marigny neighborhood, LaBeouf allegedly attacked a man outside before returning to the establishment. Once inside, he allegedly began hitting the same man again and punched another onlooker in the face.

Jeffrey “Damnit,” a master of ceremonies at New Orleans events, alleged that LaBeouf was also shouting homophobic slurs.

“He kept trying to get up and fight people,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “He wouldn’t stop screaming slurs. That’s why I say this wasn’t just a bar fight. This was about hate.”

LaBeouf was arrested and charged with two counts of battery. After his release, he was spotted dancing on Bourbon Street.
