According to Michael Jackson’s former publicist, Beyoncé was one of only a handful of celebrities who supported him after allegations made against him. In 2006, she presented him with an award. This reportedly meant a great deal to Jackson.

Michael Jackson’s former publicist said Beyoncé continued to show him support

Over the years, Jackson faced multiple allegations of child sexual abuse. According to his former publicist, Raymone Bain, people began to distance themselves from him afterward.

“There were only a few who supported and who even called to say, ‘We are with you, and we are supporting you.’ That was very hurtful to him,” she said, per Yahoo. “And I can count them on one hand, truly.”

When he received the Diamond Award from the World Music Awards, Bain said very few people wanted to give him the award.

“When he was honored by the World Music Awards, it was very difficult to find people who would come and give him his award,” she said. “The organizers and owners of the World Music Award were calling so many people to give Michael Jackson his award, and they wouldn’t do it. They didn’t want to be on the same stage.”

Ultimately, Beyoncé presented him with the award.

“That’s why I love Beyoncé now, because she defied everybody,” Bain said. “And she and her mom, Tina, they were like, ‘Beyoncé is going to do this.’ And I will never forget it. Michael never forgot it.”

Bain believed Beyoncé went against the advice of her team to give him the award.

“You know, we can all follow the leader,” Bain said. “But she stepped up when others in her camp said, ‘Oh no, you don’t wanna do this.’”
