Michelle Duggar Is Taking a More Active Role in Dealing With Her Family’s Third Sex Abuse Scandal
The Duggar family is no stranger to scandal. In fact, they are unfortunately no stranger to a sex abuse scandal, specifically. The names of the allegedly guilty parties this time around are different, and the way the family is dealing with the fallout is different, too. Michelle Duggar is looking a bit more active in the wake of her most recent family scandal than she was during the last round of bad press. While the mother of 1 went almost entirely underground when her eldest son, Joshua Duggar, was arrested and later convicted of possessing and receiving child pornography in 2021, she’s more actively involved in crisis management this time around. At the very least, she was spotted driving for Kendra Caldwell’s escape from the city jail after Joseph Duggar’s molestation arrest. Jim Bob Duggar is the one missing in action this time around.
Michelle Duggar was spotted picking up Kendra Caldwell from jail
Michelle Duggar is actively involved in the Joseph Duggar family scandal. At the very least, she was seen giving her daughter-in-law a ride after her release from the city jail. The Daily Mail recently published photos of Kendra’s release from lockup. The outlet noted that she was picked up by “another woman.” While the woman’s face is not visible in the shared photos, her clothing, hair, and shoes make it clear that it is Michelle Duggar who was spotted springing her daughter-in-law. Kendra is also seen in the photos looking concerned as they drive away from the detention center.
Kendra was picked up on March 20 by Tontitown police officers on four counts of endangering the welfare of a child. She was also charged with four counts of false imprisonment. Police allegedly tried to serve a warrant for Kendra’s arrest at the Duggar residence early in the day, but she was not there. They caught up with her later on that same day. She was booked and later released on $1,400 bail. While it’s unclear who paid that bail, it was likely the Duggar family. Kendra is due back in court on April 29.
Michelle Duggar’s presence in public following Joseph Duggar’s sexual abuse scandal is a bit surprising. Michelle was largely uninvolved, at least publicly, in Josh Duggar’s arrest and scandal. She was not seen in public, did not attend the trial, and had almost no interaction with the media from the time of his arrest until recently. Jim Bob Duggar remained public-facing during that time. He has, however, not been spotted since Joseph Duggar’s arrest.
Why was Joseph Duggar arrested?
Joseph Duggar was arrested on March 18, 2026, in Arkansas on charges related to alleged child molestation. According to authorities, he was booked into the Washington County jail and charged with lewd and lascivious behavior involving a minor under 12. Joseph allegedly molested a 9-year-old girl back in 2020 while on a family vacation.
According to several reports, the victim told her father what Joseph had done recently. The father confronted the former reality TV star, who allegedly confessed to inappropriately touching the child. Police were then called, and a forensic interview was conducted. The victim, now 14, has not been identified.
Bay County police will be taking over the case, as the incident attached to the charge occured in Panama City, Florida. Florida has strict sentencing guidelines for sex crimes. If the case goes to trial, Joseph could face decades behind bars. He will also have to answer for child engagement crimes in Arkansas.
According to reports, Kendra’s charges are not directly related to her husband, Joseph Duggar’s arrest for lewd and lascivious behavior. Joseph, however, had the same charges added to his growing rap sheet. He is currently awaiting extradition to Florida, where the lewd and lascivious behavior charge will be dealt with.
