Miley Cyrus hasn’t been Hannah Montana in years, but she’s hoping to celebrate the character on the show’s 20th anniversary. Hannah Montana premiered on Disney Channel in March 2006. Cyrus has mentioned wanting to do something special to commemorate the occasion. In a recent interview, she confirmed that she is working on something for the anniversary.

Miley Cyrus said she wanted to plan a celebration for the 20th anniversary of ‘Hannah Montana’

Cyrus got her start playing Hannah Montana. She played her on television and performed as her in concert. While she once wanted to distance herself from the character, she said she is now looking forward to celebrating the 20th anniversary of the show.

“It’s about to be the 20-year Hannahversary in March!” she said on On Air With Ryan Seacrest in July. “I want to design something really, really special for it because it really was the beginning of all of this that now sits here today.”

She said she wanted to find a way to honor her start as a singer and actor.

“Without Hannah, there really wouldn’t be this…me,” she continued. “It’s so crazy to think that I started as a character that I thought would be impossible to shed, and now, that’s something that when I walk into a space, it’s looked at as this sense of nostalgia or something that you have from your childhood. But now, I’ve sort of been integrated into everyone’s life as the character has.”

Miley Cyrus recently confirmed she is working on a ‘Hannah Montana’ event

In a recent interview, Cyrus confirmed that she is working on a way to celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary.

“I am definitely in the works,” she told Good Morning America. “A lot of my time right now is being spent on how I can honor Hannah.”

She added that she is looking forward to the milestone anniversary and the character she grew up with.

“It’s such a special celebration for us all, so I’m excited to celebrate her,” she said.

She once spoke about her relationship with the character

In the more immediate aftermath of her time on the show, Cyrus said she wanted to distance herself from the character of Hannah Montana. She didn’t feel that she could have a career of her own while living in Hannah Montana’s shadow.

“I had to evolve because Hannah was larger than life, larger than me,” she told Rolling Stone in 2020. “I felt like I was never going to amount to the success of Hannah Montana.”

Still, she said she eventually realized that she would always have a connection to the character. The show, she noted, wasn’t too far off from her real life back then.

“When my peers are having these experiences and accepting themselves because of something that I demonstrated while they were a kid, that’s when I go, ‘S***, I f***ing am Hannah Montana,’” she said. “Really, Hannah Montana was not a character. That wasn’t what the show is about. It was about a normal girl with a f***ing wig on. Everything was always in me. The concept of the show, it’s me. I’ve had to really come to terms with that and not be third-person about it.”
