Miley Cyrus’ Mom Insists She Was Right to Tell Her Daughter to Stay With ‘the Wrong Guy’

Miley Cyrus said she has a close relationship with her mom, Tish Cyrus, but she admitted she doesn’t trust her advice about romance. Miley said that her mom always pushed her to stay in relationships even if she felt they weren’t a good fit. While Miley felt this was terrible advice, her mother stood behind it.

In a joint interview with The Cut, Tish, Brandi, Miley, and Noah Cyrus spoke about their dynamic. Miley revealed that her mother doled out questionable relationship advice.

“Mom’s always wanted me to stay with the wrong guy ‘cause they’re hot,” she said.

Tish didn’t see a problem with this advice.

“Well, that was great advice, because after so many years, you’re kind of over it and you’re like — in a relationship,” she said over her daughter’s interruption. “At least you get to look at somebody that’s frigging hot!”

Miley said her mother never put respect on her list of relationship “must-haves.” As a result, she felt she had to completely disregard any advice she gave her.

“I ended up with a person [drummer Maxx Morando] who means a lot to me and treats me really well and respects me,” she said. “I had to learn that the hard way because my mommy taught me the wrong way and then I had to learn the right way by myself.”

Tish was unrepentant, noting that she’s currently with someone who is “hot as hell.”

Miley Cyrus is glad her mom is in a good relationship

While Tish didn’t see a problem with her advice, her daughters noted that she has “evolved” over the years. She is currently married to actor Dominic Purcell.

“[She’s evolved] because she found someone that is hot and respects her,” Miley said. “That’s always the goal.”

Still, her relationship with Purcell is rumored to be a touchy subject with daughter Noah. Noah was reportedly involved with Purcell before he married Tish. 

She said she has a close relationship with her mom

Though Miley doesn’t think she values the same things as her mother in relationships, they are very close. She wrote the song “End of the World” because of her despondency when her mom went on a trip to Italy. 

“That was completely ridiculous,” Miley told The New York Times. “She went on a vacation to Italy without me for one week, and it felt like the end of the world to both of us.”

She said Tish felt similarly forlorn despite being on vacation.

“That’s what it’s about. I had never had my mom leave the country without me before,” she explained. “I’m too old to feel that way, but that’s how I felt. And my mom called me and said, ‘I don’t know why, but I want to cry today. I’m looking out my window, and there’s nothing out there for me, because you’re back home.'”

Miley said that because of the closeness of their relationship, she can hardly talk about her mother without tearing up. She dreads any time away from her.

“My mom no longer travels with me, because I’m 33 years old, and it was getting ridiculous,” she said. “I never want to detach from my mom, because we’re so close. I’ll get tears in my eyes even talking about her. But if nature plays its course in the way that it does, I will be an individual without my mom at some point, and that used to completely paralyze me.”
