Miley Cyrus Now Has Some ‘Regrets’ About Her Split From Liam Hemsworth and Wants to See Him
After meeting on the set of their filmThe Last Song in 2009, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth began dating. In 2018, they tied the knot but separated the following year. Their divorce was finalized in 2020.
The two have both moved on, and these days Hemsworth is engaged to model Gabriella Brooks, while Cyrus is engaged to Liily drummer Maxx Morando. But now there are reports that before she walks down the aisle for the second time, Cyrus wants to clear the air with her ex-husband first.
According to Globe Magazine, “As much as Miley has tried to move on, she’s really had a tough time. She’s the type of person who hates leaving things unsaid, and she swears that’s the reason she wants to see Liam. He was her first everything. She truly believed they were destined to be together forever, and she regrets a lot of the way things went down toward the end of their relationship.”
Insiders who spoke to the publication claim that Cyrus’ friends “fear her well-intentioned desire to clear the air with her ex will bring a wrecking ball to his new engagement.” Moreover, Hemsworth’s fiancée isn’t on board with the former spouses meeting up for any reason.
“Miley wants the air totally cleared,” one source said, adding, “Liam hates confrontation, so he’s avoided Miley since things imploded. He literally just ghosted her — which has only made it harder for her. And Gabriella wants Liam’s focus on her–not on building a better relationship with his ex!”
The Hannah Montana star has opened up about her ex over the last several months and shared that she still has some sentimental items from their time together.
In a September 2025 interview with Vogue, Cyrus revealed, “I literally have a dress that I had on when I met my ex-husband. And then I have my dress that I wore on our first date along with letters and things that I really. I want to savor these kind of beautiful moments of my life.”
When the former co-stars announced their separation in 2019, there were rumors that Cyrus was unfaithful to Hemsworth after photos showed her vacationing in Italy and kissing Brody Jenner’s ex-wife, Kaitlynn Carter.
However, the “Flowers” artist took to Instagram to shoot down those reports, writing, “I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating. Liam and I have been together for a decade. I’ve said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and always will. BUT at this point I had to make a healthy decision for myself to leave a previous life behind.”
As for why Hemsworth and Cyrus’s marriage ended, the singer later admitted that behind the scenes, “There was too much conflict. When I come home, I want to be anchored by someone. I don’t get off on drama or fighting.”
Other reasons given were intense public scrutiny, growing apart after a 10-year on-and-off relationship, and Cyrus prioritizing her health and sobriety, while acknowledging that their marriage was an attempt to rebuild after losing their Malibu home in a fire.
