Murder Jokes and Bedtimes: Theresa Nist Chronicles Wild Behavior by Ex, Gerry Turner
Gerry Turner might have thought he got the last laugh by securing a book deal that allowed him to trash his ex-wife, Theresa Nist, but we aren’t so sure it’s going to work out that way. While Turner has his memoir, Nist has the podcast circuit, and if her recent interview is any indication, she has a lot to say about her former Indiana-based husband. She revealed the bedtime he tried to impose and a murder joke that she certainly didn’t find funny.
Gerry Turner joked about killing Theresa Nist
Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s interactions after they left the Bachelor Mansion were pretty limited. Despite getting married, they spent only a handful of days and nights together. Apparently, that was enough time for things to get really strange, though. Nist appeared on Dear Shandy to tell her side of the story following the release of Gerry Turner’s scathing memoir. While Turner whined for pages about her “East Coast mentality,” she revealed he once joked about killing her and hiding her body.
Nist recalled going for a walk with her then partner around a lake in Turner’s home state of Indiana. She said that everything was going just fine until they got to a point where they could see a shed. Nist said that Turner pointed out the shed and told her that was where he’d hide her body if he was going to kill her. She insists it was clearly a joke, making sure to let fans know she didn’t actually fear for her safety, but she did say he didn’t laugh, nor did she get the sense that he actually wanted her around. There were other odd moments in their relationship, too.
She said he also freaked out about a strange bedtime
Nist had more stories to share, though the murder plot joke is certainly one of the darker tales. She regaled hosts Sharleen Joynt and Andy Levine with another odd moment from her brief second marriage. Nist recalled an odd evening when Turner said he was heading to bed at 7:30 pm to accommodate an early morning appointment.
Nist said that she felt compelled to “keep him company” and agreed to go to bed at the same time, despite normally hitting the hay closer to midnight. She said that she had a difficult time sleeping, as one would expect, and decided to get up when Turner had drifted off to sleep. She said when he awoke and found her no longer in the bed, he approached her aggressively, claiming she “lied” about going to sleep with him. Nist said she tried to explain what happened, but he was hearing none of it.
The ‘Goldens’ are turning out to be messy, but why?
In his memoir, Turner has dozens of stories claiming Nist was difficult and unreasonable; she has a story to match each one. While the truth of their relationship likely lies somewhere in the middle of their two tales, Turner’s decision to go scorched earth on his ex-wife seems almost inexplicable. Not only was the relationship short enough for them both to leave it unscathed, but it seems like they both wanted out. With Nist seemingly dedicated to maintaining a sense of decorum initially, you’d think he’d just let it go.

Critics have argued that the former lead of The Golden Bachelor was looking for money when he wrote the book. It seems plausible. In fact, it is the only explanation that really makes sense. After all, for someone who apparently cared so much about what the public thought of him at one point, he suddenly seems fine with Theresa Nist airing out her side of their dirty laundry. We suspect he thinks any publicity is good publicity at this point.
