“It’s a Scary Time”: Jennifer Lopez Fights Back Tears Over Empty-Nester Life
Jennifer Lopez is relatable to every parent at the moment whose kids are going to college. The singer was often spotted speaking about her kids turning 18 and leaving for college. However, as the time came, she fought back tears and sent out an emotional message to all fellow parents.
The 57-year-old is the mother of her twins, Emme and Max, whom she shares with her ex-husband Marc Anthony. According to Us Weekly, she recently shared an emotional message via her brand JLO Beauty’s Instagram handle. The mother of two went makeup-free as she stood before the camera in a lacy dress.
“Good morning, everybody. This is a beautiful day, a beautiful morning,” JLo began the clip before sharing that she was set to begin her skincare routine. She further added, “I was thinking about routines because I’m sure a lot of people are going through this out there.” A visibly emotional Lopez then shared, “My kids are going away to college.”
The thought of her kids soon reminded her of the summer she spent with them. Lopez said, “I was thinking about this summer and what a great summer it was. We got to go away together. I spent as much time with them as I could, and the travel was crazy.” She then tweaked the topic to skincare, sharing the impact of traveling on one’s skin.
However, the Office Romance star soon returned to speaking about her life after her children left for college. She shared her further plan, calling herself an “empty nester.” Lopez said, “And I think when they go away, and I’m sitting here being an empty nester and crying and thinking about them and looking at baby pictures of them and all that stuff.”
She emphasized that it is not only a new phase for her children but also for her. Therefore, she shifted her focus to working out, skincare, and following a routine to take care of herself. She reminded other parents of the same, asking them to “remember it’s a new era of our lives too.”
She also suggested moms “revive some old dreams” for their new space and time. “It’s a scary time. It’s a transitional time,” Lopez added.
The singer previously revealed that she began crying two months before her children graduated from high school. According to People, JLo spoke about being an empty nester on Jimmy Kimmel Live! At the time, she told the host, “Tomorrow one of them graduates [high school].”
As the conversation went on, she tried to hush Kimmel, saying, “Don’t talk about it ’cause we start crying.” When the host asked whether the Selena star would cry at the ceremony, she replied, “Yeah.” “I’ve been crying for two months,” Lopez further revealed. She went on to share her plans to help her children pack their rooms and move to their dorms.
However, JLo also shared that she had another plan for their move. She hoped that when her kids realize that their dorms are too small, “they’re going to miss home, I hope, and want to come back real soon!”
Lopez also revealed that she took two days to write a piece in her children’s yearbook. She quipped, “When I tell you the tears. Two days it took me to write those things.”
