Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing for 10 days. Multiple law enforcement agencies are involved, and the family is willing to pay for the octogenarian’s safe return. Still, she has not turned up. While it might seem like the police are nowhere close to finding her, there have been several developments in recent days. We’ve compiled a timeline of key events in the case so far.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31

On January 31, Nancy Guthrie dined with her daughter, Annie Guthrie, and her husband. Annie told investigators that she dropped her mother off at home around 9:30 pm. She claimed that nothing seemed out of the ordinary during the meal or the drop-off.

The elder Guthrie apparently entered the home without incident. It is unclear if anyone heard from here later on that evening. It seems that the rest of the evening appeared uneventful to those outside of the home, though.

Inside the home, things were apparently very different. The exact events of the evening are unknown. Still, technology has provided some insights into what happened. Nancy Guthrie’s ring camera was disconnected shortly before 2 am on February 1. Around 2:12, it detected motion for the last time. A short time later, Guthrie’s pacemaker made its last contact with her phone. The loss of contact indicated she had strayed far from the device around that time.

When did the Guthrie family realize Nancy was gone?

On February 1, the family received a troubling call from friends of the octogenarian after she failed to turn up for a pre-arranged gathering. According to the New York Post, Nancy Guthrie regularly watched Sunday services streamed from a New York City church with a group of friends. Savannah Guthrie is a parishioner at the church.

Police were called around 12 pm after the family arrived at Guthrie’s home and found it in disarray. Upon entering the home, it was noted that the 84-year-old’s Apple Watch and phone were left behind. Blood was spotted on the porch, indicating a struggle may have taken place.

The family goes public, and ransom notes are received

On February 2, more than 24 hours after Nancy Guthrie was reported missing, the family went public about her assumed abduction and pleaded for her safe return. Savannah Guthrie has been front and center, speaking to the cameras ever since. On February 3, TMZ and several other news outlets received a ransom note demanding millions in Bitcoin for Nancy’s safe return.

On February 4, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings addressed the author of the ransom note. They said they were willing to talk, but needed proof of life first. On February 7, after hearing nothing from the captor for days, Savannah and her siblings said they were willing to pay. They insisted they needed contact before anything could be done.

Savannah Guthrie stepped back from her role on Today and pulled out of Olympics coverage to travel to Arizona amid the tragedy. Cameron Guthrie, a retired fighter pilot, has been seen in videos, too. Annie Guthrie, who lives close to Nancy, has been heavily involved in the search, as well.

Police release surveillance footage of a possible suspect and search Annie Guthrie’s neighborhood.

It has been more than a week since anyone has seen Nancy Guthrie alive. While the family contends they are still holding out hope for her safe return, onlookers fear the worst for the octogenarian, who is in need of medication if she is still alive. In hopes of spurring more leads, the Pima County Police Department and the F.B.I have released photos of a potential suspect.

In surveillance stills obtained from Guthrie’s Ring camera, a man wearing a ski mask is seen tampering with the camera and looking uneasy in the hours before Nancy Guthrie was reported missing. While the camera was disconnected, the images clearly show the man. One still even includes a peek at his facial hair, despite the mask.

On the same day that the agencies released the stills, several law enforcement agents were spotted in Annie Guthrie’s neighborhood, scouring the brush. According to the Daily Mail, which spoke with a neighbor, police were checking the riverbed. They reportedly refused to confirm whether the search was connected to Nancy Guthrie.
