Nene Leakes Said the Viral Memes of Her Are ‘Unfair’ and ‘Not Fun’

Nene Leakes’ time on The Real Housewives of Atlanta has spawned an almost endless amount of memes and reaction images. Even people who have never seen the show have almost certainly seen her face in social media comments. While Leakes acknowledged that the memes are fun for the people using them, she doesn’t particularly like them.

Leakes is likely one of the most-memed Housewives. People have made GIFs of dozens of her scenes to use for social media reactions. Leakes admitted that the memes are “not fun to me.” She said that these reaction images remind her of past style choices that she no longer likes.

“They’re fun to the people that use them, but I don’t like seeing myself like that,” she told Vulture. “That wasn’t a hairstyle that I loved and now everybody gets to send this to each other and I get to look crazy.”

She also said she didn’t like that companies have used GIFs of her, or have them in their image libraries. 

“It’s like being in a bad record deal,” she said. “It’s unfair for somebody else to be making money off of your face. And they don’t even give you 50 cents every time it’s used or something.”

With Leakes returning to Bravo with Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip, though, there will likely be new reaction images popping up soon.
