Neve Campbell Said She Couldn’t ‘Live With’ Herself if She Accepted a Role in ‘Scream 6’
Neve Campbell returned for Scream 7 after taking a step back from the franchise during Scream 6. The actor has been at the center of the franchise for years, but she didn’t feel that she was offered enough money for the sixth film. While she admitted it hurt to miss out on the film, she knew it was the right decision. She didn’t think she could have forgiven herself if she agreed to be in the movie.
Neve Campbell shared why she wasn’t a part of ‘Scream 6’
In 2022, Campbell announced that she would not be appearing in Scream 6 because she didn’t believe the offered salary represented all that she brought to the franchise. This was not a decision she came to lightly, but she knew it was the right one.
“When I made that decision, I just didn’t think I could live with myself walking on set,” Campbell told CBS Mornings. “I just didn’t feel right. I just knew that my value to this franchise was bigger than what had been offered. For me, I needed to make that choice.”
Part of the reason this was such a difficult decision was that she knew she might never get another chance to act in a Scream movie.
“When I said goodbye to it, I thought that was it,” she said. “I knew that there was a good chance that would be it.”
It stung to know that they were making the movie without her, but she felt confident in her decision. It also helped that people rallied behind her.
“When I spoke out about it, it wasn’t really to sort of rally everybody,” she said. “It was really just my truth at the time, and the fact the people got behind me, I got lovely support, and that was nice. And I do feel that other people need to make those choices.”
Campbell returned for Scream 7, which is currently in theaters.
