The New York Jets have had a lackluster season so far, and now they will be missing one of their cornerbacks for the foreseeable future. Jets cornerback Kris Boyd made off-the-field headlines after he was shot during an early morning altercation in Midtown Manhattan. The incident occurred on November 16, and details are just now coming to light. Police are still actively investigating the incident.

Everything we know about the shooting of Kris Boyd

Kris Boyd was reportedly shot in the stomach outside of a high-end eatery and nightclub around 2am on Sunday morning. According to Pix 11, the New York Jets cornerback is believed to have exited the West 38th Street location with other players. A bystander told the new outlet that Boyd got into a verbal altercation over a chain with the alleged shooter. The other players believed to have been with Boyd have not been identified.

After shots were fired, the shooter fled. A surveillance image of the suspect has been released, though no video of the shooting has been made public. EMTs responded to the incident outside of Sei Less NYC, an asian fusion restaurant known for its cocktails. Boyd was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he remains in critical, but stable condition. It is unclear what his recovery timeline looks like or when he will be able to return to football.

The New York Jets issued an impersonal statement about the shooting

While the NYPD continues to investigate the shooting, Jets fans have turned their attention to the team. While the New York Jets did not have a game this Sunday following a Thursday matchup, the organization did offer a statement on Boyd. What a spokesperson opted not to say is being criticized by some fans.

In a statement released to People, the organization stated that it was aware of the incident and had no further comment. They did not offer hopes for a speedy recovery, nor did they suggest they were monitoring Boyd’s progress, which fans found odd and somewhat cold, considering so little is known about the incident and what exactly transpired.

Boyd joined the New York Jets in 2025. He was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2019 and played several seasons with the team. He has yet to play a game for the Jets. Boyd was placed on the injured reserve list weeks before the shooting.
