After Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped down from their roles as working royals and moved to the U.S., they signed a five-year deal with Netflix for around $100 million. When their contract expired in 2025, the streaming giant did not renew it and instead gave the Sussexes a “downgraded,” “first look” deal for any upcoming projects they produce.

At the time, Meghan explained that she still had a partnership with Netflix and would be working together with the company on her As Ever brand. But in March 2026, the streamer announced that it had ended that partnership.

“Meghan’s passion for elevating everyday moments in beautiful yet simple ways inspired the creation of the As Ever brand, and we are glad to have played a role in bringing that vision to life,” a Netflix spokesperson said. “As it was always intended, Meghan will continue growing the brand and take it into its next chapter independently, and we look forward to celebrating how she continues to bring joy to households around the world.”

This announcement came after With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration, failed to crack the top 1,000 of Netflix’s most-watched shows in the second half of 2025. And more bad news for the duchess is that, according to several reports, As Ever is struggling to sell its products with a significant unsold inventory that includes hundreds of thousands of jars of jam, candles, and bottles of wine.

“Losing Netflix on As Ever is a brutal backlash because the halo just got ripped off, and what’s left looks like another failed Montecito money grab,” Eric Schiffer, chairman of Reputation Management Consultants, told Page Six. “The pattern starts looking like lethally unwise brand management. For Meghan, losing Netflix is the kiss of death to the pitch that prestige partners still see unlimited upside.”

Now, someone who used to work for the royals and knows Prince Harry, believes the duke and his wife would have done things differently if they could.

Grant Harrold was King Charles’ butler from 2004 to 2011. During his time working for the monarch and his wife, Camilla, his duties also included those of valet, house manager, and driver. He looked after Prince William, Kate, and Prince Harry as well whenever they stayed at Highgrove House.

Speaking on behalf of OLBG, Harrold told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “It’s been six years, but I don’t think things have gone the way Harry and Meghan wanted them to. I believe they would have liked to have had a fairytale time as celebrity royals, however, it’s been far from that.

“They’ve faced a lot of criticism and many of their projects haven’t worked. I do wonder what would happen if they were to go back and do it again. I imagine they would have done things a lot differently. While they seem very happy in their new lives, I think they would change some of their bigger decisions.”

Harrold also acknowledged that, given all that has happened, the duke and duchess may never be able to just step back into royal life either if they wanted to, opining, “I don’t think it’s that easy for them to step back straight into the royal family — there is still a lot of upset. We know that Harry is back in communication with his father, the king, but I don’t think that’s the case with the wider family, including William and Kate.”
