After playing his college ball with the Oklahoma Sooners and the South Carolina Gamecocks, quarterback Spencer Rattler was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Rattler started several games during his rookie year for the injured Derek Carr. Following Carr’s retirement in the offseason, Rattler competed for the starting job. He eventually won that and received high praise from Saints head coach Kellen Moore.

“He’s done an awesome job this offseason,” Moore said (per Cronkite News). “He’s just been consistent. He’s made some really good decisions throughout this whole entire process, and his ability to make plays with his arm and his feet have certainly shown up. I’m really, really excited about Spencer. He’s earned this opportunity, he’s going to do a tremendous job for us.”

Rattler also received a big vote of confidence from Saints legend Drew Brees, who told Blogging the Boys podcast: “I think he’s is very talented. I think he can do a lot of things. I think he throws the ball really well, I think he’s a dynamic player.”

Now, fans want to know more about the man playing under the bright lights in the Bayou and who he’s in a relationship with. Here’s more on Rattler and his longtime girlfriend, Yazmina Gonzalez.

Rattler and Gonzalez are high school sweethearts

Before college, Rattler attended Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, Arizona, which is the same high school Gonzalez attended. The two began dating in 2014.

A photo Rattler posted on X (formerly Twitter) in 2018 shows him placing a corsage on Gonzalez’s wrist and posing next to a car before they attended prom. He simply captioned it: “Prom flow” with a black heart and a red heart emoji.

Despite being in a relationship for over a decade, Rattler and Gonzalez have only shared glimpses of their lives together on very few occasions via their social media accounts.

Gonzalez is an athlete as well

Like Rattler, Gonzalez is an athlete as well.

She played volleyball at Pinnacle High and later Scottsdale Community College in the 2019-2020 season. She pounded 344 kills and added 312 digs at the junior college level.

Today, Gonzolez has more than 16,000 followers on Instagram and nearly 4,000 on TikTok.

She’s shown her support for her beau during his games

Gonzalez also appeared on the Netflix documentary series QB1: Beyond the Lights. The program chronicled Rattler’s senior high school season at Pinnacle as a highly-touted prospect in his recruiting class. It documented his much-debated practice habits and showed a bit of his life off away from the gridiron as well, including interactions with his parents and Gonzalez.

Since he’s been in the NFL, Gonzalez has shown support. After he impressed during a preseason game in August, she took to her Instagram Story to post a picture of Rattler throwing a perfect pass and captioned that: “Love to see it.”

She also posted a sweet birthday message for Rattler on social media for his 24th birthday, writing: “Happy birthday to my best friend for life. I love you so much.”
