News Anchor Says Nancy Guthrie Ransom Note Is Likely Legitimate
The search for Nancy Guthrie enters its fifth day. Followers are losing hope that the 84-year-old mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie will be found unharmed. Still, police remain hopeful. A news anchor in Arizona believes there might be a good reason to believe the octogenarian is still alive. She says she believes the ransom note sent to multiple news organizations is legitimate and not a hoax.
Several news outlets received a ransom note for Nancy Guthrie
The search for Nancy Guthrie took an unexpected turn earlier this week. Multiple news outlets reported receiving an email that appeared to be a ransom note for Nancy Guthrie. TMZ was one of the first outlets to report receiving the email.
According to the outlet, the ransom note asked for a large sum of Bitcoin for the return of Guthrie. Several other news outlets received the same note, and police investigating the abduction have been notified. They are said to be taking the note seriously.
Guthrie is believed to have been taken from her home sometime around 2 am on February 1. She was last seen on January 31 around 9:30 pm. Her Apple Watch stopped syncing to a medical device around 2 am, indicating she was far from it at that point. She was reported missing hours later, after she failed to appear at church. The watch, along with her phone, was found at her residence.
A news anchor in Arizona says she thinks it’s legitimate
While it is very possible the ransom note was sent as a hoax by an ill-meaning prankster, an Arizona news anchor feels pretty confident that it is legit. Mary Coleman, a reporter for KOLD 13 News, saw the ransom note and believes the information it contains points to its legitimacy. She told CNN on Wednesday that there were details about Nancy Guthrie and her disappearance that only someone who was with her when it happened would know.
While Coleman could not share the exact contents of the note, the news anchor said it contained “sensitive information,” a ransom amount, and a deadline for that ransom to be paid. Police are taking the note seriously, as is the Guthrie family. Savannah Guthrie and her siblings issued a statement saying they were willing to talk. First, though, they said they needed proof that Nancy Guthrie was alive.
This is a developing story…
