There have been a lot of developments in the Rob and Michele Reiner case. Alan Jackson has officially stepped down as legal counsel for Nick Reiner. Still, he insists he believes his former client is innocent of murdering his parents. An insider suggests that that isn’t the case. They also alleges Nick Reiner is so addeled that he isn’t entirely sure why he’s behind bars right now. The reports suggest his mental state is far worse than people originally assumed.

Nick Reiner reportedly doesn’t know why he is in jail, claims insider

Nick Reiner’s mental state might be worse than originally reported; at least it appears to be if TMZ’s source is correct. The outlet recently reported that Nick Reiner, 32, is aware of the crimes he commited, but doesn’t seem to understand why he is behind bars. An unnamed source claims the 32-year-old believes that people are conspiring against him.

The younger Reiner was apprehended by police on December 14, hours after Rob and Michele Reiner were found stabbed to death inside their home. The struggling screenwriter had checked into a hotel in the early morning hours. He was charged with murder and is being held without bail at Twin Towers Correctional Facility. Allegedly, Nick, who spent time in more than a dozen rehab facilities over the years, was diagnosed with schizophrenia in the months before the murders and was under the care of a psychiatrist.

Nick Reiner remains behind bars as he faces first-degree murder charges. His siblings are reeling from he sudden and unthinkable tragedy of their parents’ death. Jake, Romy, and Tracy Reiner have all issued public statements about the loss of Rob and Michelle. Still, they are keeping quiet about their brother.

Tracy Reiner, who is Rob’s daughter from his first marriage to Penny Marshall, initially issued a quick statement revealing that she was in shock at the sudden deaths of her father and stepmother. She also said she came from the “Best family.” Romy and Jake Reiner also issued a statement to Variety immediately following the deaths. In it, they asked for privacy and noted that they were absolutely heartbroken by the sudden loss.

In more recent days, the Reiner family released a statement saying that they were trusting in the justice system. They have, thus far, refused to comment on Nick Reiner. They haven’t mentioned the charges against him, or the change in his legal representation.

The Reiner family is only releasing statements through a spokesperson and has remained largely quiet since the tragedy. Their social media accounts appear untouched. Romy Reiner, whose most recent Instagram post included photos of Rob Reiner, has not returned to the platform since the deaths. Jake Reiner has not posted an update since October, and Tracy Reiner does not appear to maintain a public Instagram.
