Nick Reiner’s Lawyer, Alan Jackson, Called Rob Reiner’s ‘A Few Good Men’ an Inspiration
Shortly after news of Nick Reiner’s arrest in connection with his parents’ murders broke, attorney Alan Jackson signed on to represent him. The Los Angeles-based lawyer has represented numerous high-profile clients in the past. Just months before he agreed to defend Nick, he spoke about the influence a Rob Reiner film had on him.
Nick Reiner’s lawyer praised the Rob Reiner film ‘A Few Good Men’
In 1992, Rob Reiner directed the legal drama A Few Good Men. The film starred Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, Kevin Pollak, Kevin Bacon, Kiefer Sutherland, Christopher Guest, and Jack Nicholson. In it, military lawyers Cruise, Moore, and Pollak defend two Marines accused of murder and uncover a conspiracy in the process.
The film was Reiner’s highest-grossing. It received nominations for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Film Editing, and Best Sound Mixing at the Academy Awards.
Just months before signing on to represent Nick Reiner, Jackson described the film as a major inspiration for him. He said he’s watched it multiple times.
“I’ve seen it so many times and it gives me such a boost,” he told Vanity Fair in July.
Who else has Nick Reiner’s lawyer represented?
Jackson’s newest client is Nick Reiner. In the past, though, he has worked with many high-profile clients. Most recently, he defended Karen Read, who was accused of murdering her boyfriend. After two highly publicized trials, a jury found Read not guilty.
Before this, Jackson defended Kevin Spacey in his sexual assault case. Two years into the case, the accuser dropped their civil complaint and the case was dismissed.
He also defended Harvey Weinstein. A jury ultimately found him guilty of rape and sexual assault, and Weinstein received a 16-year prison sentence.
The lawyer has worked as both a prosecutor and a defense attorney. He served as the lead prosecutor in the 2007 and 2009 murder trials against Phil Spector. While the first ended in a mistrial, a jury found Spector guilty of second-degree murder in 2009.
According to his bio at Werksman Jackson & Quinn LLP, Jackson has “tried more than 85 cases to jury verdict with a career success rate of 96 percent, and was named one of California’s Top 100 Lawyers.”
The cast of ‘A Few Good Men’ has posted about Rob Reiner’s death
Like many who crossed paths with Rob Reiner, the cast of A Few Good Men responded to news of his death with shock and grief.
“Rob Reiner gave me a job in A Few Good Men sometime in the ’90s, and I was over the moon to get that job,” Bacon said in an Instagram video, per Deadline. “People may or may not know but This Is Spinal Tap is my all-time favorite movie. When he called me, I was just so thrilled. But the making of that movie was one of the best experiences I ever had on a set. He was so fun.”
Bacon added that he had lunch with Reiner every day on set, and Michele Reiner often joined them. He believed this fostered great camaraderie on set.
Moore said she mourned Reiner as an artist and a friend.
“There are no words to truly express the unfathomable devastation of losing Rob and Michelle Reiner,” she wrote on Instagram. “Our kids grew up together, we worked together, and as our lives intertwined personally and professionally I will always cherish the moments and memories of what we shared.”
Sutherland, who worked with Reiner on Stand By Me and A Few Good Men, also posted a tribute.
“Like so many, my heart was broken today when I heard the news about Rob Reiner and his wonderful wife, Michele,” he wrote. “Rob was one of the kindest gentleman I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with, when I was very young he gave me an opportunity that changed my life, and I will forever be grateful.”
