Everything You Need to Know About Kim Kardashian and Ray J’s Sex Tape Settlement
Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner’s defamation lawsuit against Ray J just took an interesting turn. While the billionaire and her mom filed a lawsuit after Ray J claimed they were being investigated by federal agents, the long-discussed sex tape is still a key element in the case. Ray J has countersued, citing the tape and the family’s continued discussion of it as major problems. Now, Kardashian and Jenner have submitted proof of a previously unknown settlement to the court. Apparently, Ray J and Kim Kardashian came to an agreement about their sex tape back in 2023. A judge will need to figure out how that factors into their current claims.
Kim Kardashian and Ray J came to a secret settlement over their sex tape
Kim Kardashian’s defamation lawsuit just got interesting. While fans are privy to pretty much everything that goes on in Kardashian’s life, whether she wants them to know or not, she apparently managed to keep one big secret. Apparently, way back in 2023, Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner, ironed out a settlement with Ray J and his mother, Sonja Norwood, over the couple’s sex tape. In the settlement, all parties agreed to stop discussing the tape and to stop disparaging each other. According to Entertainment Weekly, Kardashian paid Ray J around $6 million to settle the case.
It is unclear exactly how the settlement was reached, but it was clearly done very quietly behind closed doors. This is the first time fans are hearing of it. It seems we are only learning about its existence because of the ongoing legal drama between the former flames. Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner are currently suing Ray J. He is countersuing the mother-daughter team, and the settlement is evidence in that case.
Why are they suing each other now?
While the current lawsuit filed by Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner has little to do with the sex tape, the settlement contract is directly involved in the situation. Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner filed a lawsuit in California in October, after Ray J made disparaging remarks about the mother-daughter duo on several livestreams. They took issue mostly with Ray J’s suggestion that they were being investigated for racketeering and that he was helping the government “build a case” against the Kardashian family. The Kardashians have denied the allegations. Kim claims Ray J’s false claims have cost her time and money. She also alleges that the claim has impacted her reputation.
Ray J turned around and countersued the pair. In his counterclaim, he says that despite their private settlement requiring all parties to stop discussing the decades-old sex tape, they brought it up in season 3 of The Kardashians. Kardashian and Jenner have argued that the content was filmed before the settlement was finalized. A judge has yet to rule on the case.
