NBA Star Jaylen Brown’s Father Arrested for Attempted Murder; Who Is Quenton Marselles Brown?
The father of NBA superstar Jaylen Brown has made headlines for a serious incident that occurred in Las Vegas.
Multiple outlets have reported that the Boston Celtics player‘s dad, Quenton “Marselles” Brown, was arrested on Aug. 20, for attempted murder following a parking lot dispute with another man.
Here’s what we know about Jaylen’s dad and the stabbing that left another individual in critical condition.
Marselles Brown is a former professional boxer
Marselles is originally from Louisville, Kentucky, and is a former professional heavyweight boxer. His father, Willie Brown, is also a former boxer.
Marselles, who is 7-feet tall with an 86-inch reach, competed in his first professional fight on Jan. 13, 1989. He is the 2015 WBU C.A.M. Heavyweight Champion, the 2016 WBU World Champion, and a member of the Hawaii State Boxing Commission Board.
In 2016, at 48, he came out of retirement for a bit and explained that his decision to do so at that age had to do with his sons, Jaylen and Quenton.
“My main motivation for coming out of retirement was to show my kids that I never gave up on my dreams,” Marelles told boxing247.com. “So I didn’t want them to give up on theirs. I am extremely proud of both my sons. I am especially proud of Jaylen. He is an extraordinary athlete and very smart.”
Marselles was allegedly involved in altercation over a ‘door ding;’ his lawyer calls it self-defense
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Marselles got into a dispute at All American Park just after 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20.
Jaylen’s father and the alleged victim, a youth football coach, reportedly argued in a parking lot and the coach was stabbed several times. Marselles was taken into custody while the victim was taken to a nearby hospital to undergo surgery.
An arrest report obtained by KSNV News 3 in Las Vegas states that witnesses told police the fight started over “door ding” and “The girlfriend of the man who was stabbed said they were sitting in the parking lot when an SUV parked next to them and someone came out of the passenger side.
“The passenger door of the SUV hit the driver’s side door, and the woman said her boyfriend got out to check for damage. The other man in the SUV was immediately confrontational, said ‘it was just a bump’ and called the boyfriend a ‘b**** a**.’ Her boyfriend slapped a side mirror on the SUV in response, and the man asked if he wanted to go,’ to which the boyfriend said ‘yes.’
“After the boyfriend turned his back, the man from the SUV ‘briskly walked after him while producing [an] unknown object from his right side.’ The man ‘swung his arm in a straight stabbing motion and struck [the boyfriend] in his back.'”
The boyfriend suffered several stab wounds to the back, upper right clavicle, and left hand. Marselles’ attorney, however, says his client told him he acted in self-defense after the youth football coach became aggressive over the door-ding and struck him with what appeared to be a gun.
Marselles’ bail was set at $300,000. He is due back in court next week.
