Michael Jackson’s three children have lived in varying levels of the spotlight over the years. Since Jackson’s 2009 death, Paris and Prince Jackson have cycled in and out of the public eye. Bigi Jackson, once known as Blanket, has maintained the most private persona of the three, but his recent appearance at the Michael premiere has reignited interest in his conception and birth. Fans remain curious about his biological mother, who remains anonymous to this day. Still, three main theories persist.

One theory suggests Bigi Jackson was born to an anonymous surrogate via an anonymous egg donation

The most prominent theory surrounding Bigi Jackson’s parentage is perhaps the most mundane. Online chatter has long suggested that Michael Jackson used an anonymous egg donor and a separate anonymous surrogate to carry Bigi. Both women are believed to be unknown, and ongoing theories suggest neither was made aware that they were carrying a child for Michael Jackson.

According to this theory, Bigi Jackson does not know who his biological mother is and never will. His biological father is assumed to be Michael Jackson, though some online critics have questioned whether the King of Pop was the biological father of any of his children.

This theory is also the one Michael Jackson himself signed off on. He mentioned, on more than one occasion, that he did not know who the mother of Bigi Jackson was, and that the anonymous egg donor was not aware of who the child would be raised by either. Jackson discussed it in the 2003 documentary Living with Michael Jackson.

A second theory suggests the 20-something’s mother was a Mexican-American healthcare worker

While an anonymous egg donation and surrogate agreement are the most rational explanations for Bigi Jackson’s conception and birth, they aren’t the only theories that exist. For years, a theory that Michael Jackson hired a Mexican-American healthcare worker he met in the early 2000s to carry his child has circulated among tabloids.

The theory, based largely on Bigi Jackson’s striking looks, suggests that Michael Jackson handled a private surrogate arrangement with a woman he came to know through his own medical tribulations. Theorists suggest that a handsome financial incentive has kept her quiet all these years, though it would seem that Jackson’s death would have made it possible for her to come forward if she wished. There is no credible evidence to support this theory.

Some theorists think Bigi was carried by a friend of Michael Jackson

While Michael Jackson never shared the name of the woman who carried his youngest son — and even suggested he didn’t know who she was — some conspiracy theorists think he very much did know. In fact, some online sleuths believe he may have had an actual relationship with Bigi Jackson’s mother.

While there is little compelling evidence, aside from the timing of Bigi’s birth, the theory that he was born to a close friend or former girlfriend of Michael Jackson’s persists. Who that person might have been remains a mystery, as Jackson had grown increasingly reclusive by the time Bigi was born.

While it is understandable that the mystery surrounding Bigi Jackson’s parentage continues to interest fans, it’s likely one we’ll never get an answer to. Michael Jackson died in 2009; his son’s mother has never stepped forward, and the man Blanket Jackson grew into prefers a quiet life.
