*NSYNC Documentary Scrapped After Justin Timberlake Sought More ‘Control and Power’ Than His Former Bandmates
Plans for a potential *NSYNC documentary and tour stalled after Justin Timberlake failed to commit to it. The band planned to release a film, but reportedly could not agree on creative control of the project. Sources claim that Timberlake sought more control than the other members of the group, leading to the dissolution of the project altogether.
An *NSYNC documentary is not moving forward, reportedly because of Justin Timberlake
In 2023, *NSYNC reunited to release a song for the Trolls Band Together soundtrack. The collaboration reportedly inspired them to work on a tour and documentary. Now, though, the project has fallen apart.
“This film/documentary project has been in the works since then and has had many iterations (meaning a scripted film and a behind-the-scenes-style documentary featuring the band),” a source told Us Weekly. “As of now, nothing is proceeding.”
Timberlake, who has had the most mainstream success of his former bandmates, reportedly sought more creative control over the project. This was an issue for the other members, so the project began to unravel.
“He wants certain elements of control,” the source said. “Let’s say Justin wants to be executive producer while the other four are producers. That sort of thing. [It’s] an element of control and power that they could not agree on.”
The former group wanted to release the film for their 30th anniversary in October, but that has come and gone.
