Ludacris was born Christopher Bridges on Sept. 11, 1977, in Champaign, Illinois. When he was in high school, his family moved to Centreville, Virginia, before relocating again to Atlanta, Georgia. He has stated that he is a distant cousin of the late comedian Richard Pryor.
Ludacris became interested in hip-hop music as a child and wrote his first rap song when he was just 9 years old. After graduating from high school, he attended Georgia State University and studied music management.
