Sha’Carri Richardson’s name made headlines after she was arrested for assaulting her boyfriend, fellow track and field star Christian Coleman, in July.

The Olympians were captured on camera walking through the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. At one point, Richardson shoves Coleman multiple times.

When police showed up, Richardson can be heard telling the officers: “This is the position that Christian puts me into. Because he’s a coward, and I don’t want anything to do with him from this point going forward. My name is Sha’Carri Richardson. Have no problem with letting you know who I am. Haven’t put my hands on him. We had an argument. I will be honest about that.”

The officers then arrested Richardson on the spot for domestic violence assault.

She attended David Wendel Carter High School, where she ran track and won state titles in the 100-meter and 200-meter races. After graduation, she enrolled in Louisiana State University and ran 10.75 seconds to break the 100-meter collegiate record at the NCAA Division I Championships. This feat made her one of the 10 fastest women in history.

In 2019, Richardson left LSU to pursue her professional career in the sport and received a sponsorship from Nike. She won a silver medal in the 100-meter and a gold medal in the 4×100 relay at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. After she was taken into custody at the airport, Richardson was booked into South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Washington, and was held for about 19 hours before she was released.

The Olympic gold medalist took to social media on Aug. 12, posting a video in which she addressed the incident and apologized to Coleman.

“I apologize to Christian. He came into my life & gave me more than a relationship but a greater understanding of unconditional love from what I’ve experienced in the past,” she wrote. “Due to my past trauma & pain. I was blind & blocked off to not only receive it but give it. I love him & to him I can’t apologize enough. My apologies should be just as loud as my actions honestly louder. To Christian, I love you & I am so sorry.”
