After years of being at simmering odds, Cardi B and Nicki Minaj are engaging in all-out war through social media. After Minaj mocked Cardi’s album sales, they began trading shots on X (formerly Twitter). Cardi pointed out the age difference between the two rappers, noting that she was in high school when Minaj started putting out music. How much older is Minaj than Cardi?

Cardi B told Nicki Minaj to compare herself to her peers

In a series of since-deleted posts, Minaj mocked Cardi’s song “Magnet” and the sales for her sophomore album, Am I the Drama? Cardi responded with a series of posts, including one in which she asked Minaj why she was comparing their album sales. 

“Why you keep bringing up my album??” she wrote. “It’s not the gag that you think it is..You been in the game like 16 years.. you need to compare yourself to YOUR peers that started around YOUR time. Rihanna, Taylor swift, Drake…those are the numbers you need to be competing wit and you can’t cuz you doing lower than all of them. I was in high school when you came out wtf is you comparing yourself to me for???”

Minaj was born in 1982 and released her debut album, Pink Friday, in 2010. Cardi was born in 1992, making her 10 years younger than Minaj. She released her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, in 2018.

Cardi B and Nicki Minaj have feuded for years

The ongoing sparring between Cardi and Minaj is just another chapter in their long-running feud. In 2017, Minaj seemingly liked a comment dismissing Cardi’s rapping. Though Minaj later insinuated she never liked the comment, their relationship only deteriorated from there. 

Fans took note of their social media posts and tried to find evidence of the feud in their music. For a while, though, Cardi and Minaj denied they were at odds. 

Their feud reportedly turned physical 

Tensions boiled over in 2018. At a Harper’s Bazaar New York Fashion Week event, the pair allegedly got into an altercation while Christina Aguilera performed.

“They had their altercation on the second-floor balcony, right above the red carpet,” a source told People. “All of the sudden there was a big commotion and everyone didn’t know what was going on.”

Cardi alleged that Minaj said something about her infant daughter, Kulture. This reportedly prompted her to throw her shoes at Minaj. Cardi left the party with a noticeable lump on her forehead. She later addressed the situation on social media. 

“I addressed you once in person, I addressed you a second time in person, and every time you copped the plea!!” she wrote on Instagram. “But when you mention my child, you choose to like comments about me as a mother, make comments about my abilities to take care of my daughter is when all bets are f***in off!! I’ve worked to [sic] hard and come too far to let anybody f*** with my success!!!! B****es talk all that s*** in they raps but in real life they p****!! This s*** really is for entertainment!!”

Minaj later described the incident as “mortifying.”
