Bobsledder Elana Meyers Taylor has three silver medals and two bronze medals in the five Olympic Games she has competed in. She is the most decorated Black athlete in Winter Olympic history and one of the greatest bobsledders of all time.

Now that she is competing again in Milan-Cortina, fans want to know more about the Olympian and her life away from the track. Here’s more on Elana Meyers Taylor, her husband Nic Taylor, and their family.

How Elana and Nic met

Elana and Nic’s love story began back in 2011 when Elana was an intern for the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation. As USA Today noted, when she answered the phone one day, Nic happened to be on the other end.

His whole reason for calling was to inquire about some paperwork, but their conversation went beyond that. Following that phone call, Elana and Nic met at a training center and began dating shortly after. The two got engaged in 2013 and tied the knot a year later.

They are both Christian, and Elana once talked about how she believes being a bobsledder serves an even bigger purpose in life, saying, “One of the big reasons I was put in bobsled is to help people not only reach their goals but come to Christ. God put me here for a specific reason, and I don’t think it’s just to win medals. At the end of the day, I’m in this sport to glorify God, so if that means I come in last place, or I win the gold medal, that’s what I’m going to do.”

Nic is an Olympic bobsledder as well

Like Elana, Nic was an Olympian and professional bobsledder as well.

Nic attended City College of San Francisco before transferring to California State University, Northridge, where he joined the track and field team. After graduation, he got into bobsledding.

He has won multiple medals at World Cups and North American Cups and was a member of the USA’s bobsled team in the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics as an alternate.

Nic has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and engineering, a master’s degree in exercise science, and earned a doctorate in chiropractic therapy from Life University in 2021.

How many children Nic and Elana have

Elana and Nic are parents to two children. Their oldest, Nico, was born in February 2020. He was diagnosed with Down Syndrome and bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. Two years later, the couple welcomed their second son, Noah. He was born deaf.

Nico and Noah are a constant presence at bobsleigh competitions, which is a good thing for everyone and keeps Elana and her USA teammates on their toes.

“You can’t have team drama when the two of them are around, especially Noah, because he’s running around all the time,” Elana explained per Olympics.com. “As soon as somebody starts to have a conversation with you, he’s off. He’s taken off. So somebody’s got to chase him. They’re constantly releasing everybody’s positive neurotransmitters, having them around, interacting with them, and everything.

“They’re all over the place. They’re at meetings. They’re with us all the time. So everybody has a chance to interact with them, and they interact so well with them too.”
