Ozzy Osbourne Shared Why Everyone Avoided Him at a White House Correspondents’ Dinner: ‘Sharon Was Going F***ing Nuts at Me’
At the 2002 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, then-President George W. Bush honored a surprising person: Ozzy Osbourne. The Black Sabbath rocker attended the ceremony and received thunderous applause from the crowd. Despite this, he said nobody wanted anything to do with him. Osbourne shared why people found him so off-putting that night.
Ozzy Osbourne said people steered clear of him at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner
Per The Independent, Bush welcomed “Washington power brokers, celebrities, Hollywood stars, Ozzy Osbourne” at the 2002 White House Correspondents’ Dinner. As the crowd cheered, Osbourne stood on a table and blew kisses. He was a guest of honor that night, but Osbourne said he didn’t have much respect for the president.
“Yeah – he was a c***,” Osbourne told Shortlist. “I was f***ing faced at that dinner. I’d had three bottles of wine before I went in there. Sharon was going f***ing nuts at me.”
Osbourne said that even though Bush welcomed him to the event, he didn’t speak to him. Nobody did. He said people seemed afraid to approach him.
“I mean, no one would come near me because I was off me f***ing nuts,” he explained. “I’ve met him, I’ve met Bill Clinton, I’ve met loads of them. But they’re very strange people. Hillary Clinton was wonderful, a very nice lady. George Bush, I never quite got his deal.”
Ozzy Osbourne said his antics made a career in music perfect for him
When asked about his “drugs and alcohol-fueled” life, Osbourne said it made a career as a rock artist perfect for him. He said it was full of people like him.
“And rock’n’roll, the industry I chose to work in, is a breeding ground for people like me,” he said. “Society always remembers the bad people. I’m sure Robin Hood didn’t just rob the rich to feed the poor. I suppose he robbed everybody he f***ing could coming through his neck of the woods. To buy new tights.”
Rightfully, he didn’t think any other career path would put up with him.
“So when you get somebody off the beaten track who doesn’t play by any rules, [rock’n’roll] is the perfect job,” he said. “If I worked at IBM, they wouldn’t put up with my antics.”
His family recently announced his death
Years after this incident, Osbourne’s family announced his death. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2019 and recently played his final concert.
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” his family wrote in a statement. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
His wife, Sharon Osbourne, and four of his children, Jack, Kelly, Aimee, and Louis, signed the statement. Osbourne was 76 years old.
