People Slam Kevin Federline After ‘Offensive’ Claim That $20k a Month in Child Support Wasn’t Enough
After Kevin Federline and Britney Spears divorced, she began paying him $20,000 a month in child support, on top of alimony. Federline took full custody of the couple’s two sons following a messy custody battle. In his new memoir, Federline said that the child support money wasn’t enough. Many people have responded with disdain.
Kevin Federline said child support from Britney Spears wasn’t enough
Federline and Spears married in 2004, and she filed for divorce in 2006. In Federline’s new memoir, You Thought You Knew, Federline said he received $20,000 per month in child support for their two sons and another $20,000 per month in alimony for half the duration of their marriage (per Page Six). He also received an estimated $1 to $1.3 million in settlement.
“People hear figures like that and think you’re financially set,” he wrote. “But the reality is far from that.”
While this sounds like a lot of money, Federline said it didn’t “stretch as far as you’d think.” He claimed rent, transportation, security, childcare, “and all the other day-to-day needs of raising two kids in LA” quickly added up. Federline also admitted his lawyer encouraged him to invest the money, but he didn’t think that would be necessary. He assumed he would make another million without much effort.
People are slamming Kevin Federline for his statements about Britney Spears’ alimony and child support
Federline’s comments have not gone over well with many people. To most, saying that a minimum of $20,000 a month was too little to raise children felt completely tone deaf. Federline also began receiving $40,000 per month after a ruling from a judge.
“There are people who make that monthly income in an entire year and raise 6 kids,” wrote one Reddit user. “This guy is just an idiot.”
“Literally telling on himself lmao,” added another person. “How does he think people with kids who work make it ‘stretch?’ $40k a month is a lot of money, people are doing this on $40k/year.”
Many people also expressed their belief that Federline should have gotten a job.
“So offensive and out of touch,” wrote one person. “But I expect nothing less.”
Even people who felt Federline did his best for the children didn’t want to hear him complain about the money.
“I don’t say this to dismiss that her kids clearly have a lot of trauma from her time with her, and I’m glad Kevin did his best to keep them out of the spotlight and as far as we can tell, ensure they were relatively well adjusted,” noted one person. “But he has GOT to shut the hell up. Everyone at this point knows that his lifestyle has been propped up for a decade plus based on Britney’s torment. If he wasn’t smart enough to invest for the day that the kids were grown so he could keep living a lifestyle he’s accustomed to, that sucks.”
Federline shared his reasons for putting out a new memoir
Federline’s new book makes bombshell claims about Spears. He said he did it for his sons.
“I want my children to be able to move forward in their lives and know that the actual truth of everything is out there,” he told the Associated Press. “That’s a very, very big part of this for me. And it’s really important that I share my story, so they don’t have to.”
He said his sons are supportive of the book.
