Perez Hilton, the celebrity blogger who built his career on spilling the tea about others, has been in the headlines himself this week. It is not for a good reason. A troubling livestream depicting the blogger harming himself led to police intervention, a Baker Act hold, and will require surgical intervention, says his family. Here is everything we know so far.

Perez Hilton’s livestream leads to hospitalization

On the night of August 4, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputies responded to Hilton’s home after reports that he was livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media. The video, broadcast on TikTok before the platform removed it, appeared to show Hilton with visible injuries. Deputies located him inside his home. He was safely taken from the home to a hospital for care. Police received multiple calls about the incident.

Hilton’s talent management team, Golden Artists Entertainment, said in a statement shortly after the incident that they hadn’t yet been able to reach him directly, but that their focus remained on his health and well-being, as well as that of his family.

Hilton has been banned from TikTok after the incident. It is unclear if that ban will be lifted sometime in the future. He is not the first celebrity to be booted off a social media platform, seemingly for good, after a scary incident, though.

Perez Hilton will require surgery, says family

In the days since the terrifying livestream, Hilton’s family has issued a series of updates through his website, thanking fans for what they described as an outpouring of love, support, and prayers. By the weekend, the family shared that his condition remained serious but stable. Reportedly, Perez Hilton had experienced significant blood loss and sustained injuries that will require surgery as he continues to recover. They said his treatment and recovery will be a long process, though they did not give a timeline for his release. Hilton has not issued a public statement himself yet, and likely will not be able to while he remains under a Baker Act hold.

The family also used their statement to address intense media attention outside their home. They are asking the media to step back, leave the property, and to stop harassing family members who are seen coming and going from the home. The family is also requesting privacy for Hilton’s three children, the oldest of whom is just 13.

His recent health struggles

Perez Hilton has had a pretty difficult journey in recent months. His current hospitalization is not his first. Earlier this year, the 48-year-old spent 21 days in the hospital battling sepsis. While the infection was cleared, his health journey hit another roadblock just days later. Days after being released from the hospital, he was rushed back for emergency surgery after doctors discovered a “massive” blood clot in his leg. The complication was caught early but could have been fatal.

He underwent surgery to address the clot in early April. He was open about the terrifying ordeal and the pain of recovery on his podcast and during livestreams. The incident reportedly left Hilton battling significant trauma, both physically and mentally.
