Petition Demanding Nicki Minaj’s Deportation Reaches Over 70k Signatures
Nicki Minaj is facing sustained backlash after her appearance at AmericaFest, with thousands of people even demanding her deportation. Minaj said she came to the United States as an illegal immigrant and recently stated that she is not a U.S. citizen. As a result, some are hoping to see her impacted by the policies she says she supports.
The ‘Starships’ rapper recently made an appearance at AmericaFest
Minaj appeared at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest, a conservative conference. In a conversation with Erika Kirk, she spoke about Christianity and her support for Donald Trump. Some of the comments she made at the conference have sparked backlash, including, “Boys, be boys… It’s okay [to] be boys… There’s nothing wrong with being a boy.”
“This administration is full of people with heart and soul, and they make me proud of them. Our vice president, he makes me … well, I love both of them,” Minaj said. “Both of them have a very uncanny ability to be someone that you relate to.”
Despite the backlash, Minaj has doubled down on her comments. She has posted a number of clips and photos from the event on her X (formerly Twitter) account.
People have started a petition demanding the deportation of Nicki Minaj
While some people have simply mourned Minaj’s embrace of right-wing politics, others have taken things a step further. A Change.org petition to “Deport Nicki Minaj to Trinidad” has 73,939 signatures at the time of publication. The description accuses her of “unacceptable” behavior, such as harassing Beyoncé and Jay-Z, and being married to a registered sex offender.
“In addition to her personal misconduct, Minaj’s choice of partner puts further stain on her reputation,” it reads. “She is married to Kenneth Petty, a registered sex offender, whose criminal history brings additional concern. Despite the gravity of his past actions, Minaj continues to fiercely defend him, reportedly going as far as intimidating and threatening his victims. Such actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the law and for the safety of others.”
The petition further asserts that Minaj’s wealth and status shouldn’t shield her from “legal and moral boundaries.”
“Deporting Nicki Minaj back to her home country, Trinidad, seems the most viable solution to curtail her harmful actions,” it reads. “It would ensure the safety of American citizens and send a clear message that harassment and support of criminal activity will not be tolerated.”
Nicki Minaj previously criticized deportation
Minaj’s embrace of Trump surprised many fans because she previously criticized him. The rapper said his immigration policies disturbed her.
“I’m not gonna jump on the Donald Trump bandwagon,” she told Rolling Stone in 2020. “I don’t like that. I get that a lot of people don’t like him for obvious reasons. But, what stuck with me was the children being taken away from their parents when they came into this country. That really bothered me because I was one of those immigrant children coming to America to flee poverty.”
She added that while she found him funny on The Celebrity Apprentice, she couldn’t support his stance on immigration.
“I couldn’t imagine a little child going through all of that, trying to get to another country because they didn’t have money in their country, or whether you’re fleeing from war … and then being taken away from the one person that makes you feel comfort,” she said. “That is what really raised my eyebrows. That is what made me go, ‘Something about this doesn’t sit right in my spirit.’”
