Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are getting married, and her enormous, vintage-inspired engagement ring is causing a stir. After Swift posted her engagement photos, searches for the ring surged. A jewelry expert said this could change the way people view engagement rings in the future.

Taylor Swift shared photos of her massive engagement ring

On Aug. 26, Swift and Kelce shared a joint Instagram post announcing their engagement. In the photos, Swift wears a black and white striped dress, and Kelce wears a blue shirt and white shorts. They are reportedly posing in the backyard of his Kansas home, surrounded by flowers.

One of the photos also showed a close-up of Swift’s ring. The massive, old mine-cut diamond sits on a yellow gold band. Experts have estimated that the diamond could be between seven and ten carats and likely cost well over $500,000.

Taylor Swift’s engagement ring could change the industry, said a jewelry expert

Swift’s ring takes inspiration from vintage pieces while still feeling modern. Jewelry expert and founder of Abelini, Nilesh Rakholia, said it feels like a good fit for Swift. It could also have a resounding impact on the jewelry industry.

“The numbers don’t lie,” Rakholia said. “Within 24 hours of Taylor Swift’s engagement announcement, Google searches for ‘Taylor Swift engagement ring’ surged by an unprecedented 10,100%. As someone who has spent nearly two decades in jewelery manufacturing and retail, I’ve witnessed celebrity influence on consumer trends before, but this phenomenon transcends typical market responses — it’s reshaping an entire industry conversation.”

Rakholia has increasingly seen couples “asking for pieces that tell a story,” representing a “movement toward authenticity.” He believes that Swift’s ring will push a new trend in engagement rings.

“This isn’t just trend-following — it represents a fundamental shift in how people view engagement rings,” he said. “Where once the focus was purely on carat weight and brand recognition, today’s consumers are prioritising uniqueness, craftsmanship, and personal meaning. Swift’s choice reinforces that the most significant rings aren’t necessarily the largest or most conventional, but those that reflect genuine personal style.”

While most couples can’t afford a ring with such a huge price tag, they can still take inspiration from Swift’s ring.

“For couples considering their own engagement rings, Swift’s choice offers a valuable lesson,” he explained. “The most meaningful pieces are those that genuinely reflect who you are as a couple, crafted by artisans who understand that they’re creating not just jewellery, but the physical embodiment of a life-changing moment.”

He believes Swift’s ring is important for the industry

While some celebrities have flaunted vintage rings in the past, Rakholia said Swift’s ring might push interest in the style.

“The Swift effect on engagement ring trends will likely persist well beyond the initial media frenzy,” he said. “While we have seen similar pieces before — Scarlett Johansson’s antique Art Deco ring with an old mine-cut diamond in 2013, Mary-Kate Olsen’s vintage 1950s Cartier piece, and Milla Jovovich’s vintage old mine-cut stone — Taylor is now setting the definitive tone for renewed interest in bespoke design services, vintage-cut diamonds, and independent artisans.”

To Rakholia, this would be a welcome change for the industry.

“This shift toward personalisation and craftsmanship represents exactly the kind of evolution our industry needs — one that values human skill, individual expression, and lasting quality over mass appeal.”
