It seems like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s son, Prince Archie, has grown up so fast as he celebrates his 6th birthday. Royal fans saw Archie on several occassions when he was a baby and still living in the U.K. with his parents. But when the duke and duchess moved the U.S., the public saw a lot less of him.

The Sussexes made it clear that they did not want to have their children’s faces out there too much. However, they have shared a few glimpes of Archie and his sister, Princess Lilibet, over the years. And with a new Instagram account launched in January, Meghan has treated fans to rare photos of her little ones.

Just ahead of Archie’s birthday, his mom posted a pic of her husband with their children. And now fans want to find out more about the young prince.

Here are few things you may not have known about Harry and Meghan’s oldest child including why they don’t technically have “full cusstody” of him.

Facts about Prince Harry and Meghan’s son, Prince Archie

Although he’s known as Prince Archie now, he was born Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor as he did not have the prince title until his grandfather became King Charles following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Archie’s zodiac sign is Taurus, just like three other royals — Prince Louis, Princess Charlotte, and the late queen. And when he was baptized, Archie wore the same christening gown as his cousins Prince George, Charlotte, and Louis.

Another fun fact about Archie is that he went on his first royal tour abroad when he was just four months old as his parents traveled to South Africa with him. While there, they met the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu in Cape Town.

The Sussexes’ little boy now resides with his parents in sunny California and two things he loves are “hiking” and “being a big brother.”

Bizarre rule gives King Charles ‘full custody’ of Archie

There’s a pretty bizarre rule regarding who has custody of Prince Archie, and it’s not Meghan and Harry.

King Charles III technically has “full custody” of both Archie and Princess Lilibet due to an “18th-century prerogative,” the Royal Observer noted.

According to royal journalist Marlene Koenig, “The 1717 prerogative in which King George I introduced due to issues he was having with his heir, the future King George II, gave the sovereign jurisdiction over the custody of his/her grandchildren. This never extended to the late Queen Elizabeth II since Archie and Lilibet were her great-grandchildren.” However, Koenig explained that the prerogative resurfaced in the mid-1990s during the marital issues of the then-Prince Charles and Princess Diana. But just because the royal decree exists doesn’t mean King Charles would ever act on it and try to take the Sussex children, who he doesn’t have a relationship with, from their parents.

And although Archie and Lilibet are members of the royal family with a place not too far down in the line of succession, it remains to be seen if they will ever know their father’s relatives or do any work on behalf of the Crown.

“The fact they are still seventh and eighth in line to the thrown is quite extraordinary really and you never know one day they might be called into action,” royal expert Phil Dampier said when speaking about the Sussex kids’ possible future with the Crown. “They might move up the scale. It’s all hanging a bit by a thread and I think when they get older they’re going to start asking questions and say, ‘How did it come to this? That we haven’t got a relationship with our grandparents or the royal family.'”
