Prince Harry Complains About Losing His Security But Prince William and Kate Were ‘Happy’ to Take a Trip Abroad Without Any Protection
When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their roles as working royals in 2020, the Duke of Sussex lost the Metropolitan Police protection guards he had his entire life. The prince then went on a years-long mission trying to get his security back.
Harry sued the British Home Office in 2022 in an effort to reverse the decision and went to the Court of Appeal in 2024 after losing attempts. In May 2025, a judge dismissed his case to have the security reinstated. Following that ruling the duke told BBC: “I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the U.K. at this point.”
Harry has long insisted that the taxpayer-funded protection is essential for him and his family’s safety. But some are wondering why he’s that worried about his safety when his brother and future king, Prince William, has actually gone on trips overseas without any protection.
Here’s what was just revealed about the Prince and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) traveling abroad without their security.
Prince William and Kate went to India with no security protection
Sanjoy Roy, the co-founder of the Salaam Baalak Trust center at New Delhi railway station in India, spoke about William and Kate’s secret visit, minus their security to the charity helping vulnerable children in 2016.
GB News reported that Roy told guests at a Jaipur Literature Festival London reception that during their tour of India, William and Kate visited the Salaam Baalak Trust center which provides food, education, and healthcare to children in need.
He remembered royal representatives contacting him to let him know that the couple was “happy to come without security.”
Roy said he tried to “dissuade” them, citing safety concerns, recalling: “I tried to dissuade them, saying, ‘No can do – it’s too dangerous. Just don’t come.’ But Will and Kate said, ‘No, we really want to.’
“We’d had Tony and Cherie Blair come before; they did this whole thing with our street kids. It was just a circus. I didn’t want a circus for the kids. The press came. It was just not nice … But here, William and Catherine, they were so wonderfully respectful.”
The future king seems to be able to live ‘pretty normally,’ so why can’t Harry?
Following that admission, another story was brought to mind about how it appears that William can lead a “pretty normal life” and even be “low-key” when he wants to show up at random places.
According to royal expert Richard Eden, Prince William was spotted at a neighborhood pub in Norfolk in 2024, and no one bothered him.
“I’m told [William] popped into a pub in North Norfolk at the weekend with his mother-in-law, who is said to have been staying with the Prince and Princess of Wales for Easter,” Eden wrote in his Daily Mail column. “It was all very low-key, with no great fanfare. He just walked in and through the pub. He appeared to be with Carole Middleton.”
Eden then pointed out that the stark contrast of how Prince Harry said he and Meghan fled Britain in 2020 “fearing for our lives,” yet his brother seems able to “enjoy a pretty normal life.”
