What Prince Harry Gave Meghan Markle From Princess Diana’s Jewelry Collection That No One Knew About
As royal fans know, Prince William’s wife, the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton), and Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, were both given pieces of jewelry that once belonged to their mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
Kate of course, now wears the late princess‘s stunning 12-carat Ceylon sapphire engagement ring, while Meghan’s three-stone, center cushion-cut engagement ring includes two diamonds from Diana’s personal collection. Meghan owns a few other pieces from Harry’s mother that her husband gave her, but not many people know about a pair of butterfly earrings Diana used to wear that the duchess has donned on more than one occasion.
Here’s more about those beautiful earrings and how much they cost.
How much Princess Diana’s earrings that Prince Harry gave Meghan cost
The fine jewellery experts at UK retailer Steven Stone have taken a closer look at those butterfly earrings, which were gifted to Meghan by the Duke of Sussex to commemorate the news of her first pregnancy.

“The Duchess of Sussex first wore Princess Diana’s yellow gold butterfly pavé earrings at the official start of the Australian royal tour in October 2018 — shortly after she and Prince Harry announced they were expecting their first child,” Maxwell Stone told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “Delicate yet rich in symbolism, the earrings are believed to have been a personal gift from Prince Harry to Meghan to mark the joyful news of her pregnancy.”
He continued: “Crafted from yellow gold and set with pavé diamonds and deep blue gemstones — likely sapphires — the earrings were originally worn by Princess Diana during a royal visit to Canada in 1986. The heirloom pieces not only honour the memory of Harry’s mother, but also represent transformation, hope, and new beginnings — which made them a poignant choice for the duchess’s first appearance as a mother-to-be.
“I’d estimate the earrings to be worth around £5,000 ($6,675) — a small yet significant piece within the reported £400,800 ($535,205) collection of Princess Diana’s jewellery now in Meghan’s possession.”
Other jewelry Meghan owns that previously belonged to her late mother-in-law
Some of the other valuable pieces Meghan has that came from her mother-in-law’s collection include a gold bangle, a Cartier watch, and her massive aquamarine ring that was a gift from Prince Harry on their wedding night.
The emerald-cut ring was given to Princess Diana by her friend, Lucia Flecha de Lima, in 1996. She wore it on two different occasions before her tragic death in 1997. More than two decades later, Prince Harry gave it to his bride to wear for their wedding reception.
Gemologist Alexandra Michell of the reality series Posh Pawn said: “In 2018, the ring was estimated at £75,000 ($100,000). However, should this piece be presented at auction today, and with such an unconventional story behind it, I would think this piece would fetch over £100,000 ($134,000).”
