After Prince Harry and King Charles had their face-to-face meeting at the monarch’s London residence on Sept. 10, there was hope among many that the father and son had reconciled. However, a true end to their royal rift may not have been accomplished in the 54 minutes the Duke of Sussex spent at Clarence House.

And the reports that the king has let his youngest child right back into the royal fold are now being countered.

Report that Prince Harry could take on a few royal duties now while residing in the U.S.

There have been reports that the meeting was such a success that the king agreed to allow Harry to do the half-in, half-out deal that he and Meghan initially requested when they stepped down in 2020.

The duke and duchess did not get their wish through when Queen Elizabeth II shot down that idea of living part-time between the U.K. and the U.S. while still conducting royal duties on behalf of the Crown.

“The king is a forgiving man but has been absolutely clear in upholding his late mother’s decision that there cannot be ‘half-in, half-out’ members of the working royal family,” a royal source told the Daily Mail.

Other Palace insiders shared, “Whoever is behind this seems to have mistaken a brief tea and a slice of cake for the Treaty of Versailles,” and “These syrupy briefings from supposed Sussex sources are precisely why the king and royal family are so hesitant to embark on any road to rapprochement. If the intention is to encourage a rebuilding of trust and relationships, they serve the precise opposite effect.”

Will the duke and king make an appearance together at an upcoming key event?

Sources also told the Daily Mail that the Sussexes’ team was “tentatively discussing” increased meetings between Harry and the king, potentially including a joint appearance to signal “public unity.”

If that is the case, one such appearance that could benefit all parties would be the upcoming Invictus Games, which will be held in 2027 in Birmingham, England.

Back in June, the official Invictus Games Birmingham social media account posted the dates of the games, noting that the Opening Ceremony will take July 10, 2027, and the Closing Ceremony will be on July 17, 2027.

Following that announcement, Prince Harry reportedly began putting together a guest list that includes his estranged family.

A source told The Telegraph at the time: “Harry has agreed that Invictus should extend an invitation to his family. Invictus hopes the royal family will come along to support the wounded veterans taking part. Harry is hopeful his father will set aside their differences to attend the Invictus Games and support veterans. The royals have always been hugely supportive of Invictus and proud of what Harry has achieved in that arena. This is one olive branch from him which might be reciprocated.”

There is one conflict in the royals’ diary with the event as the closing ceremony is the same day as Queen Camilla’s 80th birthday. So stay tuned.
