There has been chatter for years that several of Prince Harry‘s relationships with his longtime pals broke down after he met his future wife, Meghan Markle. Many people have experienced something similar happening in their own lives as people can grow apart when another person gets serious and marries their partner. But there have been reports that Harry’s friendships broke down because of Meghan.

An explosive book has leveled some claims about that, and the reason the Duke of Sussex’s friends reportedly weren’t fans of Meghan from the first time they met her.

The harsh texts Prince Harry’s friends sent each other after meeting Meghan

The information about harsh text messages allegedly regarding Meghan sent amongst Harry’s friends were made public in investigative journalist Tom Bower’s book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors. In it, Bower talks about a trip the prince invited his then-girlfriend on in 2016 with several of his buddies, where things didn’t go the way Harry had hoped they would.

In an extract serialized by The Times, Bower explained that Meghan and more than a dozen of Harry’s best friends, along with their wives and girlfriends, gathered at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk for a shooting weekend. The biographer wrote that the weekend was filled with banter and jokes, but Meghan didn’t find those to be very funny.

Bower explained that the “jokes [involved] sexism/feminism,” and “without hesitation, Meghan challenged every guest whose conversation contravened her values.” Bower added that some of the friends he spoke to admitted that at the end of the weekend, they were completely put off by the former Suits star and concluded that “Meghan was a dampener on the party … She lacked any sense of humour.”

According to the book, “Driving home after Sunday lunch, the texts pinged between the cars: ‘OMG what about HER?,’ ‘Harry must be f***ing nuts,’ and ‘she’s a total nightmare.'”

The author detailed another get-together for Tom “Skippy” Inskip’s wedding where the future duchess and Harry’s pals didn’t mesh well then either, as some in attendance shared: “Not only did [Meghan] quibble about the food, but behaved ‘princessy.’” She also reportedly wasn’t interested in engaging with any of Harry’s friends.

Harry and Meghan’s wedding was an A-list affair with everyone from Amal and George Clooney to Serena Williams to Elton John in attendance. A private party was held later that evening at Frogmore House and while many celebs were invited to that event as well, some of Harry’s closest friends weren’t.

Royal expert Kate Nicholl previously discussed how the prince’s buddies were taken aback when they didn’t get an invite to the Sussexes’ nighttime reception, telling Nicholl they were “a bit surprised not to get the golden ticket to the evening party.”

In a piece for Vanity Fair, Nicholl noted that Harry’s longtime pal Astrid Harbord was not invited. Neither was Violet von Westenholz, who some believed introduced the pair, or Harry’s “old party chum” Natalie Pinkham. Even Skippy and his wife were left off the guest list.
